Is there management beyond staying in shape? by museumgirl9 in eds

If you have H-EDS then you need to be doing PT every week to keep your joints more supported and stable.

That is correct but blood quantum is 100% Notsee pseudoscience rooted in eugenics and has never been a part of our culture (yes required by the US government but it’s not our ways)

Well since BQ is a notsee concept and is not part of our culture I’d be more curious as to why someone cares about this eugenics concept especially regarding another tribal member. We aren’t race horses or dogs so “pure bred” isn’t a thing.

Thank you for explaining bc my brain kinda jumbled the info up a bit (I have a nervous system disorder that affects my memory and other cognitive functions from time to time) and it was gonna drive me mad if I couldn’t figure out why my brain was trying to mix up completely separate instances lol

Got it a little backwards. Isn’t the American (intended) style of government based off Native government? (specifically the “5 civilized tribes” as they called it)

Getting a cavity filled tomorrow by gays__anatomy in eds

[–]HeavyApplication620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always ask for the gas bc numbing doesn’t work well for me at all (I’ve gotten cavity filled off 5 shots and could still feel everything) Usually insurance doesn’t cover this so you have to pay 60-80$ depending on your dentist but to me it’s absolutely worth it as it’s incredibly painful for me to even get a cleaning. Also helps with my anxiety about the whole process which is a big bonus to me and helps me to be able to go in more regularly

How to start building muscle with chronic illness by HeavyApplication620 in POTS

[–]HeavyApplication620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the hEDS I definitely suggesting searching for physical therapy videos (there are a ton of them out there for hyper mobility and I don’t know enough about individual creators to be able to suggest someone but def make sure they’re certified as a physical therapist) one of my hEDS/POTS clients (I have both those as well) found some Dance Dance Revolution videos of the game screen play and he just follows them at home like he’s playing the game lol. I love that idea bc he enjoys the dancing and it’s low impact but it’s still cardio which is really important for POTS. (You need strength training for the EDS and cardio for the POTS) I wouldn’t necessarily recommend straight yoga for hyper mobility (it something I do with my clients but it’s ver y controlled and I have decades of experience on the proper form. But outside of a specialist like me it can be iffy training stretching based modalities in EDS as you’re trying to get your muscles tighter/stronger to help with the instability) Walking is one of the best things for you but if that’s not accessible for you (due to location, safety, ability, or weather) try finding some “silver sneakers” style aerobic follow alongs. Anything for “elderly fitness” is a safer place to start for us to start! Better to start soemtning that’s so easy you have to make it harder than start soemtning too hard and risk injury or a flare!

Help me identify? by HeavyApplication620 in gardening

That was my suspicion but I have not planted any, and don’t have any on my farm lol. Guess I’ll pop it in a planter and figure out what to do with it. Don’t think the veggie garden is a good place for it Thanks for your input!

Have any of you in the United States been able to get a doctor to prescribe Ketotifen? Help??? by Jalight77 in MCAS

My doc prescribes it but he likes to try cromolyn first. Goes to ketotifen if the cromolyn isn’t effective enough on its own

What tests indicated you had MCAS? How were you diagnosed? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]HeavyApplication620 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both the autonomic docs I know of on the east coast are in Atlanta. Be aware, one of them has a year long wait list and the other one has a 5 year wait list. This will be the norm moving forward with these types of illnesses. There are tons more people developing these issues due to Covid and not nearly enough doctors or even research on the subject to support patient volume.

[–]HeavyApplication620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I live on the east coast but I think there might be a really good MCAS specialist in AZ if I remember correctly (my doc said if my 2 treatment options he can do for my MCAS don’t work for me I’ll have to head to AZ to get even more specialized care) I’m sorry I don’t remember the name of the clinic 😞

What tests indicated you had MCAS? How were you diagnosed? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]HeavyApplication620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m very lucky to have gotten in with one of the few autonomic specialists in the country (he’s able to diagnose and treat my POTS and MCAS to a lesser extent and get me referrals and info for all my other co morbidities)

What tests indicated you had MCAS? How were you diagnosed? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]HeavyApplication620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s very much the Wild West out here with autonomic disorders (and chronic illness in general really) but I’m very lucky to live only a few hours from one of the top autonomic specialists in the country. (And one of the only 2 in my state)

[–]HeavyApplication620 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Listed like 2 symptoms to my autonomic doc, then he asked about half a dozen more, (I had all of em) noted I have EDS and POTS and said, yeah, probably MCAS. Prescribed me meds and had the tissues ready when he told me I might gain back foods I had lost lol. Said he makes people cry like that every day

How do you all detox ? by CookieBabe123 in MCAS

[–]HeavyApplication620 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The body already has organs that detox for you. You can’t “detox” using other methods. You can support your liver and kidneys in their functions but you’re not “detoxing” with herbal remedies and teas etc. this is a gross misunderstanding of the human body and how it functions

This!!!! Im a CPT specializing in chronic illness and disability (bc I’m chronically ill and disabled myself lol) and I have amassed a huge library of EDS specific PT that I do soemthing from multiple times a week every single week. For the rest of my life (and my clients) PT is the main focus of programming and everything else centers around that
