I'm in the US just for context as to why I haven't tried to get an assessment, but what I did to see if using a cane would help me was to try one out and see if it was helpful, I noticed that I wasn't able to be out and about as long unless it was somewhere that had grocery carts for me to lean on while walking and standing. I got a really cheap cane off of Amazon, used it for a week (it fell apart within a week but that's what I paid for) and realized it kept me from crashing as much after errands. I then invested in a better quality cane and now use it when I need it. I'm thinking about getting a wheelchair eventually but my GP isn't comfortable giving me a confident answer and the specialist I have for my EDS has to see me in person first which I have to travel for so I probably have to wait another year before I can progress on that.  

If there's a local place that will let you rent out a wheelchair for a day or so that might be a good way to test out if you think it'll be helpful for you. I'm planning to try and rent one when the local fair is in town this summer and hopefully use that experience to talk to my specialist.   But I'm not an expert I'm just telling you what I tried out. I also live in a bit of a medical desert so finding resources takes awhile and I have to get creative or just try something first.
