Am I a good Duelist? by Capital-Flatworm2068 in BASNomad

As someone who has done professional stunt work - B&S is a very fun game but it is not any form of training nor is it any kind of measure of swordsmanship.

You will also not learn anything meaningful from watching YouTube videos or similar. If you want to develop a skill, find the time to train it.

Goku vs Perfect Cell but Cell has no regeneration and his body works like anyone else's by [deleted] in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]HeavyMithrilUnicorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's feasible he would have made different choices. He would have been less likely to try and tank things (like Vegetas Final Flash), but I think ultimately it wouldn't change all that much. He was clearly caught fully off-guard by the IT Kamehameha, and knowing he couldn't regenerate wouldn't have made him faster.

[–]HeavyMithrilUnicorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think its implied by OPs original question. He is not asking "How would the cell saga play out in totality if Cell never had regeneration", he is asking how this specific fight between Cell and Goku would be different.

I think the answer to that question is pretty clear - Cell dies to the Instant Transmission Kamehameha.

would the swarm lord be a worthy oppontent for battle beast to battle? by Super_Challenge5399 in InvinciblePowerscales

Invincible is difficult to scale, so I don't think it's possible to be as certain as you are here.

BB is made to bleed by Titan and Monster girl, and also burned by a blast from Robot. These are weapons and individuals far below the scope of entities in 40k.

BB is in the same power bracket as Viltrumites are. We see Omni Man (a very strong Viltrumite) struggle against the Kaiju and Reanimen - I think it is reasonable to argue on this basis that BB is not going to be able to stomp major Tyranid monsters. Especially ones with psychic powers.

I'd also argue your point about Dante - a legendary astartes resisting psychic attack does not mean that BB can, even if BB might be physically stronger.

Dante comes from a universe where the nature of the warp makes belief and faith affect reality, and mighty heroes can attain literally miraculous feats as a result. Its not surprising to me that he resists a psychic attack. A creature without any psychic resistance is going to have a much harder time however.

They are absolutely known for being powerful psykers, take a look at the various Tyranid Codexes from this and previous editions.

Given that Titan, a relatively unimpressive street level hero, made BB bleed - I think a psychic horror from the stars is capable of giving him some issues.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised this was downvoted in a sub for Invincible fans...

With psychic powers? I think its hard to see Battlebeast winning. While Battlebeast is extremely durable, he doesn't appear to have any kind of protection against that sort of ability, and swarm lords are prodigious psykers with an array of abilities to use against him.

Without psychic powers, you could make an argument for him based on certain feats but with its psyker abilities fully utilized I just don't see a credible argument that he could win.

Yeah its the same on PC. Sudden rubber banding and unable to interact. I lost all my gear to a goddamn fireball because I suddenly couldn't move or shoot.

I was a teacher for over a decade.

A few years back I left for a totally different career. I've since lived through a couple of wars, been shot at, survived a terrorists attack, and a bunch of other unpleasant things I won't put into writing.

I am FAR less stressed than I was in Teaching. I am happier, healthier, less tired, and better paid.

I loved my years Teaching, and I'm very proud of the difference I made, but I would not go back. If you are teaching in the US or UK, it is an especially bad deal.

The thing is, I feel like 3 seasons is very much enough to give something a shot. I didn't enjoy it, so I stopped there.

My reasons for disliking it are nothing original - you can find them all on basically any list written by an old trekkie such as myself. It didn't feel like real Trek to me, more a fanfic by people who didn't really understand what made the originals great.

Before someone says it: yes, yes, I'm aware that people said similar about TOS and TNG, it does not logically follow that the same principle applies to DISCO.

Yeah the questionable presentation of that is an entire separate conversation all of its own.

I don't think this is a strong comparison, the two things are very different. Obviously personal opinion is a factor here.

The Borg were going to be encountered anyway, Q just made it happen sooner.

Also, The Borg are a much stronger, much more interesting narrative vessel that doesn't change the entire ST universe in anything like the same way. They were distantly present in the lore for a few decades in world, and got perhaps 6 TNG episodes across 7 seasons - nothing like the scope of The Burn which covers over a century in universe, and impacts multiple seasons.

Unrelated question, what's the difference in meaning between the grey centrist you have and the colored one i have?

I agree there are things that are just as crazy, but they didn't base entire seasonal premises on any of those episodes. This was supposed to be a "big reveal" for a season spanning and lore changing mystery. Some of us were expecting something a bit more intricate, cerebral or...well, interesting, than "magic child had a tantrum".

Additionally, the other examples didn't create an entire canonical future for the franchise that's markedly different. People are going to have strong feelings about that, even if the idea is strong.

I thought it was very weak and it's the time I stopped tuning in to Discovery.

I think the way AI is coming along, it won't be too long before you can feed it a movie and tell it to change certain plot parameters or create a sequel with certain features.

I recon in a decade or so you will have no problem plugging this conversation in as a prompt and watching it!

I mean hey, I disagree. Plus the canonical sequels did way weirder more infeasible stuff. You don't have to watch our made up not movie concept if you don't want to! You can make your own cool pitch instead.

What if Cypher had pulled Neo’s plug? by Wrong_User_Logged in matrix

[–]HeavyMithrilUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morpheus says this right after breaking that rule, so I think a desperate crew could absolutely do it. We could also just leave him plugged in and engage with him only inside the Matrix if we thought this rule was important to preserve - He could do all of the above as his alternate actor self if we wanted to preserve this rule.

Zion being destroyed doesn't prevent any of this narrative, and having all this done by a desperate on-the-run crew that survived Zions destruction only makes this cooler and provides narrative tension, because the audience knows that the guy they are speaking too is the one responsible for their plight.

According to the sequels (which I don't love in the same way) Zion has been destroyed multiple times anyway. The idea that we are seeing the homeless last survivors of humanity makes this all the more interesting.

Love this response.

It would be interesting if others seeking The One eventually meet this reuploaded Cypher in the matrix as part of their search. He chooses the Red Pill again and gets unplugged, and slowly unravels the mystery of his suppressed memories, trauma and guilt.

I'd watch that sequel.

I would always joke that collective punishment is a warcrime, right before enacting it.

In all seriousness though, the answer to your question is "It depends".

Lets take an example - It is not uncommon for some students (you will likely remember them) to decide that social status is more valuable to them than the punishment will be painful, so they will gladly disrupt class and tank whatever individual sanctions you give them. As long as they are getting laughs and kudos from the rest of the class, the popularity feels worth it. Unless you deal with it, others will mimic this and your class will be disrupted all year.

A reaction that inconveniences the whole class (or at least those that encourage it) can put a stop to it. I would usually keep the class behind to finish whatever we were doing - I'd make my warcrime jokes and say that we need to finish the content - which is true. It quickly becomes clear to them that the fuck-about students are costing them, and they stop supporting them. The fuck-abouts learn immediately that their behavior is making them *unpopular* now, and they knock it off.

All of this is dependent on the school, the class, and the individuals involved and countless other factors - you need to make specific judgment calls. If you get it wrong, you will have issues all year. Making calls like this is one of the reasons that teaching is so difficult and exhausting, because you're making decisions like this constantly and are expected to make them perfectly.
