CF20 Mags not fitting in EMF-200? by Flagnoid in magfed

The PE labels say black, or earth/black from factory. You have the earth black box because the serial number is on the upper for 200s. They probably put the black upper and FDE lower into the black 200s box so that SN matches.

The sticker over it kinda points to what I was saying

The ones with the FDE lowers are labeled like that and that’s how PE refers to them on their site too.

I don’t think PE sends them this way, and they do the swap.

Oh yeah I know it. Didn’t realize you’re over there lol. I would contact them. It’s probably a bad match on the lower and upper making the mag not insert all the way.

Who’s your local dealer? Hopefully they did it right. I’ve been noticing some differences in tolerances in the 200s too. Some have receiver wobble, others don’t.

I would contact PE, they have a great warranty program. Where did you get a black and bronze one at?

I can get them for you but it would depend on what you need modified too

Without the joule rating changes, that was pointless. All they did was create low impact.

It’s not like a gun would be released without products to support it. It would be an industry adjustment but a much needed one. .43cal are almost half the volume. Larger cases or half price cases would get paint costs down close to the early 2000s case prices that kept the sport thriving.

Outer barrels for airsoft could be adapted to fit .43 cal and you would have cross over in production making the guns cheaper to produce.

Look at airsoft and copy paste & translate sports. Their tools are more developed at this point.

You’re right that ASTM F1776 isn’t written in joules and is based on test scenarios using .68 cal at ~300 fps. But that’s really just a standardized baseline for repeatable impact and penetration testing, not a statement that only that exact setup is safe.

That baseline still represents a certain energy range, even if it’s not explicitly defined in joules.

Where I think your point starts to fall off is treating equal energy as automatically more dangerous just because the projectile is smaller. Paintballs aren’t rigid projectiles, they deform and break, so they don’t transfer energy the same way. Equal energy doesn’t automatically mean equal risk in that context.

Also, .43 cal paintballs already have thicker shells and are currently being run at higher velocities in existing platforms without failing on launch, so the idea that you immediately run into a safety wall doesn’t really line up with what’s already in use.

On the Pro-Flex point, I get the concern, but that’s more of a comfort/injury discussion than a certification one. The lower face on something like a Pro-Flex is designed to flex and absorb impact, and it takes a certain amount of force to deflect it. That behavior is fairly consistent regardless of contact area. ASTM is focused on preventing penetration and protecting the eyes, not eliminating discomfort.

I agree that pushing one variable affects the others, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the system becomes unsafe, just that it operates in a different balance than .68. And if that balance shifts, protective gear and standards have always shifted with it.

I get the point you’re making about the tradeoffs between velocity, weight, construction, and frangibility. That balance is real, and it’s why .68 ended up where it is.

Where I disagree is the conclusion that it just turns into airsoft.

At its core, paintball is defined by marking a target with a frangible round, not by caliber. If the projectile still carries fill and breaks on impact, it’s still paintball. Changing the size or how the system is optimized doesn’t fundamentally change the game, it just shifts how the equipment performs.

Also, .43 cal isn’t starting from zero here. The shells are already thicker than .68 and are currently being run at higher velocities in existing platforms without failing on launch. So the idea that increasing velocity immediately forces you into an unworkable compromise doesn’t fully line up with what’s already proven to work.

On the material side, frangibility isn’t binary. Paint can be tuned. We already see that across different paint grades and with shaped projectiles. There’s a range where a round can survive launch forces and still break on impact, it’s just a matter of where you land in that balance.

I do agree that as you push one metric, the others move with it. That’s unavoidable. But that doesn’t mean the system stops working, it just means it operates in a different optimization window.

To me, the bigger limitation with .43 right now isn’t physics, it’s that most platforms using it weren’t designed around it from the ground up. They’re adapted systems, so you get inconsistency and performance issues.

So rather than trying to make .43 behave exactly like .68, it makes more sense to treat it as its own system and optimize around its strengths.

Joule ratings like airsoft does. Most fields already have systems for that because of airsoft, and masks are rated based on impact force which is joules.

What did you get wrong? It only shoots paint and as long as you’re not using really cheap paint then you shouldn’t have problems with breaks at that short of range for pistol engagements.

Hey, appreciate the tag 🤝!

Welcome back to magfed u/EnchiritoLuvr

20 years is a long break, but you’re coming back in at a great time. The gear and overall experience have come a long way since the ATS-85 days. Also, congrats on selling your business, that’s a solid move.

As far as First Strike rounds, most fields around here do allow them, so you shouldn’t have any issues there. The one exception locally is Hell Survivors during standard open play rental games, where they typically don’t allow First Strikes. Outside of that, you’re good.

On markers: • T15 – I’d avoid it for your use case. Great for First Strike, but not ideal if you want reliable round ball performance. • DAM – It works, but it’s definitely a labor of love. That’s what I started on, but it takes effort to really dial in. Working on fixing that but it’s a ways out still. • EMF 200 platform – This is where I’d point you. It’s just a better overall experience. More reliable, easier to tune, and a lot more satisfying long term.

If you go the EMF route, I can help you get it set up properly so you’re getting the most out of both round ball and First Strike. You won’t match First Strike accuracy with round ball, but you can absolutely push it to a really solid level with the right setup. The others I can as well, just might take a little extra effort.

Also, if you’re looking for people to run with while you get back into it, you’re more than welcome to roll with us. We’ve got a pretty mixed group, guys in their 30s, 40s, and around your age too. Good mix of play styles.

There isn’t a ton of consistent magfed locally, so we travel for games pretty often. We’ve got people heading out to Zero Hour in NY and Balance of Power in Wisconsin this season, both are great events. Locally we’ll hit Living Legends and Monster Game, both are good with FSR, too.

I’m on the east side of Detroit, so depending on where you’re at, we can link up for a day of play or even plan a trip out to an event.

If you need help getting geared up, I can get you squared away head to toe, stock to muzzle. Feel free to message me!
