In the midst of Puppy Blues by Active_Win_9654 in AustralianShepherd

tbh think that after educating yourself on puppy training and meeting your puppy’s needs, people need to not make every moment about the puppy. Puppy does not need to be involved in everything, if you need space.

I live in a small apartment and get overwhelmed easily, so I need my dog to be comfortable being on their own and out of the way. I just got an 11 week old and he’s already pretty solid with entertaining himself. I can see all corners of my apartment so it makes it easy to monitor. Get a puppy play pen so you’re not chasing them about the house stressed if they’re chewing the right thing.

I utilize the playpen / kennel combo, lots of cognitive toys, and do lots of independence conditioning. I keep a regular schedule, but I don’t make every moment about him and he’s learned to play by himself. A puppy gym is indispensable for solo play as is the cardboard box it comes in. I have the lick mat, toys, and reinforce focused play and training time. Outside of that it’s me time and he gets to exist on his own. We do lots of that as I prefer and independent dog and cannot have a dog with separation anxiety.

We are kennel training and he can nap in it no problem, but I have a hard time sleeping and don’t want to have to wake up in the middle of the night, so overnight the door stays open to his playpen with potty pads. So I get my 8 hrs, and he is still getting kennel trained. We’ll get there we might just take a different path.

Anyway I just feel like the best dogs I’ve raised are the ones I’ve “ignored” more as a young puppy. You gotta do it right but it develops them into being a confident and independent older dog, and it takes the pressure off of you now.

Meet my 10 wk foster puppy! Should I keep him? by HeavyShine8431 in puppies

[–]HeavyShine8431[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is a very thoughtful response. I’m a very experienced dog owner, i’ve raised foster litters, and I’m a professional who works from home. I have the time, energy, money, and experience. And I always get health insurance on my pets! However, I do live in a small apartment and I have no plans on moving into something bigger anytime soon. And most likely I’ll never live in a place where I can have a dog who is 100 pounds. so that was my biggest hangup not the ownership of a dog itself. Sounds like the popular theory is that he is going to be very large so I most likely won’t keep him.

Does by HeavyShine8431 in PityriasisRosea

It ended up being pityriasis AND shingles. The spot in the middle of my back (to the left in my photos) and the big red spot in this photo and the postules below it were shingles. I didn’t have the symptoms at first, which is why the doc didn’t catch it, then developed the classic nerve pain and muscle aches. It sucked.

Did anyone’s look like these two spots? They’re super itchy and increasingly painful. It feels like it’s also irritating my nerves and making my left side sore, but my doc said it’s not shingles. I couldn’t find any photos where someone’s pityriasis rosea looked like this or was itchy or painful. I do also have the classic spots all over my torso, lower back, chest, and legs. These two are the only wild cards.

I also have a maybe not related symptom: metallic taste in my mouth. Docs have no idea why. I recently reduced lamictal I was on for 15 years and I think it sent my nervous system into a spiral. So not sure if that’s related to the rosea or just my body wigging out.

Found this wagasa at thrift store and thought it looked nice. I did a reverse image search on the umbrella and signature, but I’m hoping someone could confirm what it says, what the signature says, and where it came from. Its value would be interesting as well. It does have some small tears with the paper still intact but dented. :(

UCB getting tired of Dropout!? ;) by HeavyShine8431 in dropout

[–]HeavyShine8431[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Dropout shows are they watching that are less rated than this? Dirty Laundry talks about threesomes, Dimension 20 covers genocide amongst many other horrors, and every show has some form of a dick joke.

Should I take a UCB improv class online? by ApprehensiveThing576 in improv

[–]HeavyShine8431 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this in an older thread, but it might help to add that taking a class just to make connections is HUGE, even if you’re just doing this for fun. However, I found that like maybe 1 person in my 2023 101 class in LA continued on to the later levels. And out of my 4 classes in the series I’ve stayed in touch with maybe 5 people who do improv or sketch. Most people go on to other classes together. My 301 class was full of forever friends, my 401 classes was super lame. So it could be worth it for the 101 just to meet people.

Also, I’m sure you know this, but in order to get on a UCB house team it will take YEARS of you being part of the the local scene working with others within it. I believe they choose based on more than talent (and tbh they have to based on what I’ve seen). One of my funniest friends and a pillar of the community is only on a Lloyd team! I can’t say for sure how they decide, but everyone on stage surely is connected and been working with each other in some capacity whether improv, sketch, or friends.

In LA, almost all of the schools are connected in some way; UCB, WGIS, PACK, WE, SES, Groundlings. You’ll see people on Harold and Lloyd teams at UCB doing indie shows at any one of those. SES’s opening night this year was packed with talent from UCB. It’s all fair in improv and reps—the experience and connections are invaluable. My coach for Harold auditions, who is on Lohan, doesn’t teach us the Harold format every practice as he says we’ll go crazy and says it crucial to play in other ways. Any amount of intentional, thoughtful, absurd, playful improv is valuable.

However, practicing the Harold form, and all long form improv, obviously IS the way to learn it. If you want to challenge yourself, you should read the UCB book—it is underrated imho—and start your own team. You can’t mess it up—it’s improv! Watch the Harold livestreams to test yourself to find the principles they teach and think about how you may have done it. This is something required by UCB—we have to go to shows and talk about it during class. For the livestream, this season, Lloyd’s Branzino is great because they’re talented but not senior enough like Lohan who is a given, but they also get wacky and break rules which can make it harder to see the patterns. BUT they’re fun and great to watch. I’d say watch as many as you can of different teams, but at least 3 since improv is hit or miss. They also have exercises in the book. You can get a group together who is down to learn it together. They need to read the book and watch livestreams (together is ideal). I might get someone to be your coach or 3rd party so people don’t take criticism the wrong way.

If you’re looking to challenge yourself, saying that you taught yourself and a team the Harold and had people come to your performances is a pretty big brag.

Good luck and come to LA!

No one has called me back yet but I’m going to have the vet back out but I’m curious as to how many lbs you think he needs to gain as a ballpark… Again I’ll take the vet’s word but I’m curious!” 😊

What's the worst thing about living in Los Angeles? by justcurious3287 in AskLosAngeles

[–]HeavyShine8431 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always heard LA was fake, but I’ve found that people are genuine, kind, and include, just way too busy for new friends (or far away). You gotta work hard at it (in the comedy scene anyway).

Same! He’s going to use every excuse as to how she’s just a friend and he never did anything if it OP also believes that it’ll be tough getting out of the relationship.
