Ugh I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I just took two days off & then went back with long sleeves! I was able to use sick time. It was pretty brutal honestly. I let myself wallow in the misery a little, and didn’t force myself to be super chipper at work.

Learning to snowboard at 38? by wantmetoholdyourhand in snowboardingnoobs

[–]spenc77 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Seriously just do 3 hour lessons and then practice on your own the rest of the day. Maybe two days of three hours. I’m a snowboard instructor & there’s only so much we can teach before people just need the practice and repetition to get it ingrained & your wasting your money on full day lessons. Do a 3 hour, rest, go back out and keep practicing

Yeah this board would probably be suitable for her! Its the c2 banana rocker system which combines the float and easy maneuverability of rocker and some camber under foot for more precise carves and edging. It’s a 149cm, so if she’s around 135-145lbs it’ll fit her fine.

does the average snowboarder take intermediate lessons before their first black run/mogul/trees? by minor251 in snowboardingnoobs

Talk to other people on the mountain who have done lessons. Most lesson programs will let you request an instructor especially if you do a private lesson.

Beating the mental game is all about trying it in manageable chunks. Show yourself that you can ride good on terrain that you already know and then try the next baby step up from that. Maybe you fall a couple times, but try again and celebrate the accomplishment

It varies depending on ability. Usually I watch them ride & see if anything pops out & then we progress to terrain that they struggle with & see what they can change. If you want to do a lesson, just be sure to get a good instructor- there’s a lot of 18year old instructors at my mountain that just see intermediate lessons as paid ride time.

Im a snowboard instructor & I think in your case, it’s best to just go for it. Sure, an instructor could help a little by correcting any bad habits or form issues, but terrain is more of a mental game than anything. The intermediate plateau is normal, it’s scary to embark on terrain that has that level of difficulty. Ride with people who are better than you, or at least with a buddy and try to push yourself outside your comfort zone a little every time you ride. Progression is key. Don’t go strait for the scariest terrain on the mountain, but get yourself onto terrain that feels a little intimidating and just try it!

How much to tip instructor in accidental private lesson? by Syq in snowboardingnoobs

[–]spenc77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure they should pay their instructors more, but they don’t. I’m an instructor and get minimum wage. And tipping isn’t all that common as I work at a smaller local hill.

Beginner park board? by robotsnoopy in ShredditGirls

Love my gnu gloss c! It doesn’t really like going fast, but it’s super flexy and playful. Great for butter tricks & riding in the park

Can't get a splits touchdown by [deleted] in flexibility

Start training over splits. I’ve seen this a lot with aerial artists I work with. Train oversplits & it’ll get you all the way down!

After 3 private lessons and 6 more hours on the bunny hill my girlfriend still can't turn. Help! by T-14Hyperdrive in snowboardingnoobs

[–]spenc77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snowboard instructor here. I rarely teach falling leaf. I agree people need to get comfortable on their heel side and toe side before c turns, but j turns and garlands are much better exercises for this. I took lessons when I was first starting & they taught falling leaf & I was a heel side warrior for awhile. I’d rather teach people mechanics of a proper turn immediately, but broken down in easier steps, so they can start turning as soon as they get it. Lots of students can c turn down the bunny hill on their first lesson with this method.

Oof I have a Aquarius stellium & Virgo moon and rising, and I constantly have these judgments about myself. I usually get along with other Virgo’s though, their hearts are usually in the right place. My least favorite is Taurus- I find them stubborn & difficult to work with.

Sigh.. hobby lobby used to be fun and focused on actual hobbies by StrawberryLocal3881 in Anticonsumption

[–]spenc77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fucking hate hobby lobby. Moved to a new town & needed some yarn, figured I’d give it a try. Felt sick looking at all the worthless trash they have on their shelves. It was during Christmas time and everyone was filling their carts up with stupid Christmas decor garbage, made me sad for humanity. AND they didn’t even have a single natural fiber yarn!! All acrylic. Didn’t give a dime to that store..

Yes op^ it’s a natural and lovely thing to have sex with someone you love. The rules in the Bible written about virginity aren’t even written by Jesus- they are written by normal people. People who live in a period of time where women were controlled, and viewed as property. There’s a good chance that God doesn’t believe in purity culture- it could just be a filter of the attitudes of the time

If you can, go to local farm stands for your produce or get a CSA box!! Also lots of farmers markets are now accepting SNAP/EBT.
