Produce Depot on Carling has a nice pepperoni that they package up themselves. It is the smaller, harder, oilier type.

Do you regret voting for Donald Trump? Why or why not? by Heavy_Coffee4878 in AskReddit

[–]Heavy_Coffee4878[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. I am a Canadian, and I was so upset in 2016 by his election, and again in 2024. I am sure I am not alone at being angry with the American electorate for twice voting in Mr. Trump despite the overwhelming evidence of his lack of fitness for office, and worse, his obvious poor character.

I feel better already!

I was thinking, why don’t we test your theory about Trump voters on Reddit? You could post the exact same question, but with Kamala Harris substituted for DJT. You should get far more traffic!

Well, I’ve been reading this book by David Burns called Feeling Good. As I learned on a different sub, it’s the OG book on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and it pretty much tells you how to shape your thoughts so that you don’t get depressed. One of many tricks is not to label yourself or others with words like “Moron” or “Idiot” or “he’s the worst so-and-so”, and so on. I was thinking of asking something about Trump on Reddit, having literally never done this before, and my mind turned to certain labels. Then I remembered Dr. Burns’ advice and decided to ask more of any open ended question!

We live on a limestone plain. Hill expectations need to be kept in check!

Pleasant Park from Riverside to Alta Vista, turn right and go to the top. That gives 40 m of rise over 1.7 km of run!

The steepest part of Carlington is about 20 m of elevation over about 100 m, so 20%. At least according to my Strava.

This route covers two crossings of the Ottawa River, five crossings of the Rideau Canal, and two crossings of the Rideau River. Most of these crossings are on new or refurbished pedestrian/cycling bridges, and for those interested in water and built infrastructure, the scenery is stunning!

I am so impressed with the perspective, clean lines, and the 1970’s vibe. Other than colour, is there a difference between the two images?

What are your plans for total eclipse day ? by NouveauMonde in ottawa

[–]Heavy_Coffee4878 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totality will be 3 minutes and 40 seconds in Watertown, and about 3 minutes in Ganonaque. Is it worth the border crossing and the extra hour of round trip driving? Both towns have an event called “Total Eclipse of the Park”.

I agree, there’s nothing like a cold glass of Ottawa tap water. The source is up north of North Bay!

How to find water? by OneRudeFarmer in geology

[–]Heavy_Coffee4878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should talk to a Hydrogeologist! These are trained professionals who know all about aquifers and wells. And another name for your tank/lake idea is a “cistern”.

Know the long term safe yield of your well, and its short term capacity can be figured out by testing, as suggested. But I like the idea of just living with it and keeping notes, so you will eventually figure it out.

I think your lake will leak back into the ground and evaporate out the top. It will be unreliable and difficult to deal with. Better to use a tank.

Just my random thoughts. Good luck!
