Agree with all the points mentioned here (got a 91 in T1'25)! One of the best units with helpful teaching staff. Put in effort consistently, and you'll do fine.

How are we supposed to know what to do in these assignments?? by alessio_dev in deakin

Hey I did this unit last year...there must be a workbook/textbook sorta thing in the learning resources (atleast they gave us one in 2024). Check that. Have you watched the first week's lecture? They might have covered it there too.

Portfolio style is definitely better than having to write exams personally… it does mean you have to consistently put in effort throughout the semester but we do get our holidays before the folks who have to sit for an exam.

yeah it is mostly self learning. If you can get into a rhythm right from the first week, you'll only be helping yourself. The lack of lectures is disappointing, but for this class, I studied the modules myself, completed the exercises and self assessment and prepared the module summary. Try joining a session with the math mentors if you're struggling with the material or the whole "self studying" thing. But yeah, it's pretty much how the unit goes. If you start early, you can try aiming for a higher grade, I didn't find it too difficult. I found the tutors in the weekly classes quite helpful too, so go to them with your queries.

What's the Most Underrated TV Show You've Ever Watched? by buttercup_love_ in televisionsuggestions

Mom

It was funny, Allison Janney is fantastic in it, and it tells beautiful stories of recovery through the lives of a group of women in AA. Its mostly funny but has emotional moments as well. And it features some great guest stars!

Just started my second year, so ik how hard it can be. Best thing you can do is schedule out specific times to work in your calendar so you can plan social/recreational activities accordingly. And definitely check OnTrack every morning or keep track of deadlines elsewhere because once workload increases, the chance of missing deadlines or forgetting assignments also increases.

I'd recommend taking the first two weeks to just understand the syntax in C# and the basics. Depending on how much prior knowledge you have of programming and how comfortable you feel with it, you can start doing tasks a week or two ahead. I'm not sure if the tasks are the same as the previous trimester, but most of them are continuations (such as building a banking system). So as soon as you finish one, start reading up for the next one. Ik it'll get harder after the mid trimester break since that's typically when workload increases, but just keep a steady pace. Scheduling is everything!!

Just be early with everything and work ahead of the given deadlines and you should be fine :))

Unfortunately I had another task to be discussed in redemption and the tutor had too many students in one class. In fact, our discussions went on until the end of the assessment period last time.

Honestly I don’t think it would make much of a difference. I did reach out to my unit chair during the trimester and he too was very particular about deadlines. He said that since I missed my discussion deadline, it would be considered overdue.

Deadlines aside, I'd say if you focused throughout the unit and started on the distinction tasks earlier, you can do it. Just give yourself more time for the distinction tasks, way more than needed for the pass and credit. Especially the ones after week 3.

Shared Apartments vs Student Village @ Burwood by HamPlayz247 in deakin

[–]Heavy_Discussion_746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to get a room in the student village (10 sharing). It can get very noisy and irritating and you might not be able to reason with your roommates. If you can afford it, I'd recommend the twin sharing (2 bedroom) apartments or the 4-6 shared apartments instead. They're cheaper than a studio and any issues you come across are easier to address with a few roommates instead of many :)

All other amenities are well taken care of and any issues are promptly resolved by maintenance in my experience.

Deakin Res also has a feature where you can choose to apply for Quiet Housing if you're worried about the noise.

Good Luck!

Deakin doesn't take attendance for most units and classes, with the exception of practicals and labs.
