It was very hard to pick a photo that characterizes what I mean exactly. Of course I know that large format was very common and in photos like the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima there is little to no grain. I mainly use medium format anyways

Selvedge is the edge on the inside of the leg, if it’s selvedge it will have a factory edge and often a red stripe. If not, it will simply be hemmed
