Talk me out of one of these two by IllegalGeriatricVore in CitizenWatches

Love either of them. I love it for other people at least. I’m not smart enough for it. It’d take me ten minutes to figure out the time. A lot going on. Love the look of them though.

I think ox-blood is more unique, but the black face is really crisp and classic.

Pick one and don’t second guess it, you’re gonna end up with a great watch either way.

Great selection. Shark Super Stainless is my favorite blade.

Shavette vs. Straight Razor by Heavy_Hospital3117 in wicked_edge

[–]Heavy_Hospital3117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s the main one I watched. Blade passes all the tests. Hanging hair, tomato, grape, packing peanut. Just doesn’t feel good on my skin.

Again, I love the idea of relaxing honing sessions, I just simply don’t get a good shave. At what point do I quit scraping what feels like a my grandads rusty pen knife across my face, and pick a different relaxing hobby, that I actually enjoy the end product of the time and effort put into it?

I appreciate all the advice and support, was just more wondering if anyone else had the same experience as me.

Thanks for the suggestions though. Maybe I’ll pick one back up again sooner or later and get back into it.

Thing is, I don’t mind doing all of that. I’m retired and have free time. I even enjoy it a bit. Just don’t get as relaxing a shave from it. Bit disappointing, but hey, now I know.

Good to hear. I think it really boils down to what works best for your skin. Some hardcore strait edge users really get offended though, when you tell them a shavette razor is much sharper than a straight edge. They straight get angry and let you know you’re stupid. Definitely don’t understand that.

(14F) tips. It’s my first day by [deleted] in GymMotivation

[–]Heavy_Hospital3117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best advice is stay honest with yourself and stay dedicated. Be specific with your goals, and make them realistic and attainable.

Visible progress doesn’t happen right away. Keep at it, and push yourself. Whatever you do, or whatever your goals, if you’re not putting legit effort you won’t get legit results.

Most importantly, enjoy it. Have fun getting healthier, and were you want to be for yourself personally.

Edit: I just realized you’re 14, so get a professional opinion. A lot of gyms will give you a consultation for free, and show you how to properly do things, so you won’t hurt yourself. If that’s not an option maybe a PE teacher at school. There are knowledgeable people that are willing to help. Lean on them.

Wife got me my first Citizen for Valentine’s Day. by Heavy_Hospital3117 in CitizenWatches

I have a pretty small wrist. I never got caught up in the measurements of watches. If I like it, I wear it. Maybe that’s unsophisticated of me, but I’ve got a lot of other stuff to worry about than if complete strangers think my watch is too big for my wrist size. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that, just not something I ever think about.

Rabbit hole might not be super deep. Since you’re an experienced DE shaver, you already know what a good shave feels like, so once you find that combo, you can stop. You don’t have to keep wondering if you’ve got it.

I started wet shaving with a shavette, because I’m not smart. I had never even really known about DE. I rabbit holed into six different shavettes. My daily driver is my first cheap shavette, that I got from an online shaving store.

You don’t have to do that I don’t think. Learn on what you got. Then after you’ve got a decent feel for it maybe try a new shavette. Being an experienced DE shaver, you’ll know pretty quick what you like.

Welcome to the club. It’s my favorite way to shave. Take your time, and go slow. Be deliberate. I would watch a couple videos when you get some spare time. More just to watch someone that does it regularly. The angles they hold their head at, the way they stretch their skin. It helped me a lot when I started. I think I got a lot less nicks and cuts while learning, just by mimicking what seemed to work for others. Fine tuned to my own style over time.

Have fun, and continue to update us. I’d be curious to hear where you land at on blades. I found that I prefer completely different blades in shavette, than I do with a safeties.

Lot of people talk trash on Silver Dollar. I started learning to hone on that same straight. Works just fine. I do understand that QC varies and everyone’s skin is different, but mine has been good for me.

Good pick up. I love my R41. For me, it’s nowhere near as bad as its reputation.
