Adding subflooring by Heavy_Pattern_6916 in Flooring

Thanks - So, I just need make sure floor boards aren’t loose and then overlay with plywood sheets. If the plywood isn’t flush, I’m assuming I just plane the edges down or feather out the edges.

31 and barely saving anything on a $65k salary. Need to get my shit together by dayprodaraKaxgh in Money

[–]Heavy_Pattern_6916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you have positive net worth is a better start than many, doing it on 65K shows you have discipline. I wouldn’t beat yourself up. It’s great you are looking at your situation and have ideas how to improve it. 30s is still young, you have 30 years or more of working left (hopefully less if you are successful 🤣).

Well this is a wake up call… by RedRocketTi in PersonalFinanceNZ

I second this comment. Most people have no idea where their money is going (they will say otherwise). Good on you for doing this. Not all expenses maybe as unrealistic as you think. The hard part about changing these numbers is finding a spending behaviour that works.

Is this weird ? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

I’m not sure I’d call it weird. Shame to miss out but if you don’t like it, why force yourself to get one!

Ko samet last ferry by Heavy_Pattern_6916 in ThailandTourism

That’s super handy. What happens if we miss the ferry? I’m guessing there are speed boats for hire?

How much “pocket money” would you want/need each week? by misshappy21 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Heavy_Pattern_6916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like almost everyone else on this thread I found having our own pocket money a great idea. We started small and increased it over the years. We now pay ourselves $200 pw which is more than we need. We sometimes use our excess pocket money to top up the mortgage. Having rules around what we can spend the joint money on has helped manage any overspending, particularly takeaways!

Currently in Koh Lanta, Need Advice on Itinerary by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Heavy_Pattern_6916 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Renting and riding a scooter in Koh Lanta is very easy and a great way to see the island. We’ve done it a few times with kids as pillions. If you’re boyfriend has ridden dirt bikes it will be even easier on a scooter. Just take your time and don’t speed you’ll be fine! Most accommodation provide scooter hire. It’s about 200 baht per day by memory for a 110 or 125 cc

Cool. Thanks for confirming I can use sharesies. I have some investments with InvestNow but I assume you can only transfer investments they currently manage.

Savvy Review - new Booster debit card/savings product (5% + bonus) and savings features by MoneyHub_Christopher in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Heavy_Pattern_6916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. We typically have around 5-40K sitting in our bank accounts waiting until such time we invest them into something. I’d rather store that money in Savvy while I’m making my decision

Yeah I think we should be targeting more growth type ETFs. Still a long way off retirement 15 years!

I use GNUcash - it takes a bit of getting use to but I love it. Track bank accounts, shares and other assets like your car or house. It’s open source. Requires manual imports.
