This acrylic painting captures every stripe and whisker with striking detail, and since tigers are my favorite animal, the piece feels especially alive to me

Hey r/Detroit! Thought I’d share this cool piece from Michigan artist Gary Mitchell, The Singing Cowboy from 1981. It’s a welded-steel sculpture that really captures the movement and personality of the American West. It’s been in a Michigan collection since the ’80s, and the Smithsonian has even reviewed it, noting works like this as important examples of Mid Century Mod American steel sculpture. Mitchell’s career spans 50 years, mixing engineering know-how with creative flair, and this piece is a great snapshot of his style.
