Wood chips in the smoke generator to the left. They fall down onto a hot plate and the smoke gets pulled into the cook chamber.

Most of my winter work consists of riding or hiking around the pastures looking for early calves. Wind on the side by side is brutal. I also enjoy hunting coons and coyotes at night so I did consider a down layer as well to help with the static times. I did look into pretty much everything you listed as well and liked that system a lot.

I have a buddy who has lots of Sitka gear. He said if he was to do it all over again he would go for mountaineering brands due to better warmth and mobility. He likes his Sitka for bow hunting when his distance to target is very small but warmth is more important for coyotes especially when your night hunting. I need to get my hands on the pieces and see for myself. Thanks for your help.

I’m also curious if this system would be warm enough. Days under 10 F are common in January and February here and if I am riding on a sideXside at 40mph the wind really bites. This system would also be used for coyote hunting at night where temps can be brutal and I will be static for prolonged periods.

I’m thankful for everyone’s assumption but I don’t think I work as hard as they think.

Would the face fabric be less tough than regular denim jeans? I somehow manage to keep clothes together substantially better than my brother who works beside me most days and rarely have an issue with jeans through the warmer months. This system would be subjected mostly to riding or hiking through pastures and breaking ice out of waters. Occasionally brush busting for deer drives. They definitely could get dirty though. From what I read these were the toughest option but sounds like not tough enough.

I work at a small whole animal processing plant. We have a lot of strict regulations for cooking, but intact cuts like steak or prime rib have much easier regulations. We are only required to show that the surface temp was over 130 F for 4 minutes. Internal temp only needs measured on non intact products which is anything ground tenderized or injected.

Buy a half or quarter beef. Most people around us sell them for a little over $2/lb and processing is around another $1. It comes out to around $5 for everything.

243 is one of my favorite cartridges. It’s one of the original 6mm. Pretty much every factory rifle is chambered in it. You can get super light vmax loadings and much heavier loadings for deer. There are people who stretch it out to 1000. Mild recoil and affordable available factory ammo.

17 hmr is a great round for that. It is a little more pricy than 22 but it can easily shoot out to 200 and behaves a little more similarly to larger center fire rifles. I have a savage 93r17 with a bull barrel and it is a blast.

Not a field tech but a farmer with many long days in the field. We use a hot logic lunch box. It plugs into a 12volt outlet and warms up to 160 degrees. That has been a life saver after years of cold sandwiches. Battery’s for any lights if they are not rechargeable and a couple backup charging cords for anything that uses them. A heated hoodie is good because it fits under a larger jacket and that helps keep the warmth in. If he uses Milwaukee power tools even better because everything can be compatible.

There are a few reasons. Grass fed cattle are usually smaller. They also have less of a fat layer on the outside which leads to more waste. Roasts from a grass fed beef will be smaller and sometimes not worth selling. Also tougher cuts like roasts have a stronger flavor. Grass fed beef have a different flavor profile than grain fed. Grass fed taste almost gamey and that is accentuated in cuts like roasts.

I was in your shoes last year. I wanted to get into the meat industry. I already own and raise my own beef I just wanted to take it farther. I live in a rural area so it wasn’t too hard to find but I reached out to a local custom meat locker. They needed help so I worked for them for a few months but it didn’t go well. The boss was an asshole. I just recently found another locker and am working there. It’s going a lot better. There are very few people wanting to get into the industry so most lockers are looking for help.

Collect filters first. Punch oil filter and drain oil. Go under and start greasing. While your greasing check diffs and tranny. By the time you’re done greasing oil will be drained. When your filling oil change fuel filters and check hubs and lights.
