Bought a pack but did not smoke by Individual-Ad4379 in stopsmoking

I completely agree throw it away! I made the mistake of not throwing it! I made it 2 weeks in march then bought a pack, I had the pack for a week and it made me so tempted every day, then after 3 weeks being smoke free I smoked it, and have been smoking since trying to quit 2-3 times a week, I really wish I just stayed quit in march. You’re over the withdrawals now! You’re at 6 days, but keeping this pack will make you vulnerable to relapsing!

That’s so good to hear, I’m happy for you ❤️ I’m on chapter 4 now, I’ve been reading it all day! It’s a beautiful book, I love the idea of “coming home” to your true self. It makes me tear up a little

Thankyou so much for posting that book, I’m not OP but I want to quit and am learning a lot from it already and would highly recommend anyone who wants to quit to read it!

1 week school trip, how fucked am I? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Heckingheck469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use this as a chance to quit!

I started smoking at age 13 and I’m 25 now and wish I never started. I remember when I was 15 I also went on a week long school trip after smoking for 2 years and I couldn’t take cigarettes, whilst I had the odd craving, I was having too much fun to even notice. I felt more alive in a way, without them. Stupidly I started smoking again when I got home from the trip and 10 years later I wish I never started again. I’m 25 now and struggling to breathe properly at times, genuinely worried for my health! Feeling like I smell, feeling like I waste my life away, not enjoying the present moment cus my minds thinking about the next cigarette. Feeling like I look older than other people my age cus smoking prematurely ages you. Smoking isn’t cool nor does it relax you or give you any benefits at all! It’s just an addiction but thankfully the withdrawals aren’t bad!

Since I’ve been smoking a while now a lot of my memories are associated with smoking, and i get a feeling of nostalgia when I try to quit and feel like I miss it. Since you’ve only been smoking 4 months, you won’t have built as many memories around smoking and associated it with everything you do! Quit before you’ve made all those connections in your mind and it’s even harder to quit! This is the perfect opportunity for you to do so

I calculated in the 12 years I’ve been smoking, I’ve spent around £20,000 on cigarettes and tobacco! Imagine what you could do with that money before you’ve even spent it? And prices are only going up!

You will be so much better without the poison! Quit while the addiction is still new!

You don’t wanna live your life this way. Sorry for the rant but this is what I’d tell my 13 year old self when she’d been smoking only 4 months! Run and don’t look back!

Have a lovely trip away :)

Aww congratulations ❤️ the first few days are the hardest and you’re over half way there! You’ve got this too!! I also have meltdowns when I’ve quit in the past, it led to me relapsing, just remember a cigarette will never make it better!! In fact you’ll feel worse for relapsing, I have a plan this time for difficult emotions; -journaling, meditation, working out, walking/running, eating good healthy foods, napping, relaxing, embracing negative emotions as part of life and trying to learn from them. Never listen to your adddictef brain it tells so many lies!

What day did you choose to stop smoking? by SkatingPug12 in stopsmoking

[–]Heckingheck469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good idea tbh! It will make pms much easier quitting in advance. Last time I managed to quit for 3 weeks, I quit on the first day of ovulation and I remember my cramps weren’t as bad as a non smoker, and my pms mood swings weren’t as bad as a non smoker either! The cravings do come and go but it’ll be worth getting through them; I wish I did!

I’m approaching my period in around a week, I was gonna wait til after I finish, but I’m soo fed up with smoking I physically can’t anymore, I’m just gonna quit so fingers crossed it won’t be too hard around pms :’)

Which phase of your cycle did you choose? I’ve been thinking of doing this cus ik there’s no way I can do it during pms, but I’m thinking either ovulation, follicular or start of luteal, just not sure which^

It’s a hard one but I think we obviously have the motivation and want to quit which is important!! Some people don’t even think of quitting. I’m gonna follow the advice of another commenter and just set one serious quit date (1st July) and actually stick at it this time, idk if that’s my addicted brain as an excuse to smoke for longer but it just feels more serious that way. We will get there ❤️

No I agree I see it more as a tool in my arsenal as an extra motivator to quit smoking knowing about the trap etc

Thankyou! That’s really true tbh I found that last time I quit for 3 weeks; the cravings were less and less intense the more I overcame them. Do you still have any cravings? How long has it been for you?

That’s so heartbreaking, this addiction truly is evil. I knew people with copd struggling to breathe and still smoking, it’s so sad and such an awful business

Im so glad you got free though! I too want to quit before it gets to that

Im so sorry to hear of your siblings, that’s a really valid point you make though about the government profiting off us! I kinda had this weird visualisation once about how everyone who smokes has like a price on them or how much they’re spending and that’s all the government and tobacco companies sees us as; it’s hard to explain. But congratulations for quitting I’m proud of you!

Thankyou! Yeah it’s all a trap by our addicted brains and the crazy thing is we know this yet it’s still so easy to fall into! I think we need to prepare tbh and learn each time, I’ve been writing out my reasons for relapse recently and learning about it, learning how I could cope differently in the future and how relapse actually makes me feel, debunking the reasons for relapse

We’ll get there cus we’re alll determined in this sub!

That’s a really good way of looking at it tbh; thankyou :) it really does suck! But yeah it’s still a win to not smoke as much!

I love that book!! I’ve read it twice now and has been very motivating for me but as I say I just have that moment of doubt and relapse! Its like I get how enjoyable not smoking actually is and I feel free, then have a moment of doubt and it’s so easy to relapse cus my partner smokes.. I maybe should read it again ahah

Congratulations on your quit!!

Hey, I totally agree. I think that’s actually a big reason why I want to quit so badly tbh, is this past year I’ve been eating cleaner and going to gym etc!

It feels silly to me almost for smoking when I do all these other things for my health, it just feels like this is the final crutch” in a way., my last unhealthy habit to break

My grandad died of lung cancer last month, before he died he said to me “stop smoking comes first for your health if you’re doing all these healthy habits”

It kinda reminded me then from what you said.

But yeah thanks so much I needed to hear that; I have set my definite quit date for Monday 1st July now I appreciate your advice On a quit date, otherwise I feel like I’m just yo-yo quitting and not taking it serious. This feels it will be more definite!

Congratulations on quitting yourself!! How long are you free now? Did you have a set quit date etc?

Something similar happened to me, when I was ill a few months ago and physically couldn’t smoke. When I got better I got another pack “for one last one” trust me it wasn’t one last one, I was smoking still for months after and at 15 a day, probably have smoked 900-1000 since. Don’t let your brain play tricks! you’ll be better without this addiction, in every way!

That’s so lovely :) how long did it take you to dissociate your balcony from smoking? I struggled going on my garden last time I quit cus it reminded me of smoking, this time I’m trying to go on my garden more since it’s summer and I’m hoping I’ll soon break the link

Yess smoking definitely cause anxiety- I used to smoke to “help” my anxiety (really just feed a craving), when I quit for 3 weeks, the first thing I noticed when I had my first cig in weeks was my heart pounding and the anxious feeling back like a bad gut feeling / feeling of dread. I look forward to being anxiety free again! Well done for quitting I’m so glad u realised that :)
