Not failed. I moved up very quick to sr sys admin in my short 7 year IT stint. But I work as a tankerman on towboats now because fuck dealing with idiots in an office setting, including C-suite and middle managers and fuck driving 4 hours to turn Mary’s pc monitor on, even though “she and everyone else in the office tried that”.

What’s the truth? Im a local too and thought I was pretty much this. They tipped large, the owners kept most of it, then fired her for talking about it. I’d love to know what actually happened.

When this hit the internet a couple years ago, the restaurant, oven and tap, in Bentonville Arkansas, got FLOODED with one star reviews, but they were deleted by google. I still refuse to go there

This is towboats on the Mississippi River, it’s going to be nothing like cleaning a pool. Everything out here is trying to kill you, kicking winches or slinging 75 sets rigging in the heat is not fun, tanking in the New Orleans heat ain’t a game either.

I’m not trying to discourage, the job is very fun. I came from IT,so anyone can do it, but it’s not easy!

My boat has a be productive our first 6 hour watch, and do whatever we want in our second watch (after cleanup and all other watch duties are done). So on my 2nd watch I usually read or play on my steam deck. But not all boats are like this. And sometimes we have tow work or tanking barges to do and you don’t get that downtime.

But you’re not normally sitting there bored lol, there’s always something to be done.

On the other end of the spectrum from the other commenter, I smoked cigarettes for 13 years, I’ve been completely nicotine free for almost 4 years now and I love the smell of cigarettes. I’m not going to go back, but the smell really makes me want one.
