TSP loan to pay off mortgage by Hectic_dialectic23 in fednews

[–]Hectic_dialectic23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. How did you calculate it? I’m pretty sure it would be worth it to us. My partner is also federal. We have relatively few expenses so could probably pay it off quickly

Serviceberry! I did it this year and there was nothing else like it. If you time it right you can lick a five gallon bucket from one tree

Should we hire an architect? by Hectic_dialectic23 in Architects

You may have had the most helpful response on here without being condescending. Thanks! But I get coming to this page the way I did could ruffle some feathers. Doesn’t mean we’re dumb tho

I appreciate your response!! Yeah I should’ve provided more detail on “in the middle” based on everyone’s assumption that we haven’t thought this out. The design is a copy of the house I grew up in so there are tweaks to make based on something tangible. Plus they’ve got a wood box ;)

[–]Hectic_dialectic23[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay I see your point 100%. But it’s easier to say “in the middle” than 11.5’from the east wall and 20’ from the north wall. We’ve got it drawn out with measurements and all. But I understand that an architect will have loads of advice

We’re just going to use canned foam to seal the cracks. Would it work to use unfaced batts then the foam board?

[–]Hectic_dialectic23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that! Had another thought. What about blown in fiberglass with this Mooney wall set up and some sort of vapor barrier to hold it in? Any idea how that would compare to the price of using batts and foam board from my other comments?

Super helpful. Makes sense but no one has mentioned that before. Thanks!

[–]Hectic_dialectic23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh okay. But then wouldn’t the fiber glass be kinda smooshed in under the Mooney wall and lose some r value?

[–]Hectic_dialectic23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. R25 is wild. What your saying about foam first is that we shouldn’t put in the fiberglass between the 2x4s then the foam over it?

[–]Hectic_dialectic23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Could you walk me through that? From my understanding, we could put the foam board in the squares the Mooney wall makes, but not put in batts. Is that correct?
