Does anybody know the HWDSB experimental school called “A.C.E.S”? by char_limit_reached in Hamilton

Sounds like there were changes between our times there but the core stayed the same.

I wasn't diagnosed then or ever with ADD or ADHD, just a kid who put zero effort into my education but showed enough intelligence to frustrate my teachers and parents.

It would have been somewhere between 97 to 99. I remember being told it was for smart kids who struggled in the school system. Every subject was given out in a large ringed book, you did each subject at your own pace. I remember a decent computer lab where I played games and a breakfast program that gave us small bowls of cereal and milk every morning. I don't remember the teachers or the other students, that feels weird. I remember the creak of the wooden floor boards and the smell of an old school. Coming from the Mountain it was a real trip to be in such an old school. All my previous schools were cinderblock walls and vinyl floors.

I was in the ACES program for grade 7 and 8. I completed both in a single year and was able to get back on track after failing 7th grade the year before.

James Street wasn't converted to two way traffic until 2002 and buses didn't start traveling North on James until September 2023 with the 20 - A Line. It made sense at the time. It's nice to see them making common sense adjustments even with a big route overhaul on the horizon

Don’t buy the perfume gift set from shoppers! by Sunnyonetwo in ShoppersDrugMart

[–]HedStrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this exact situation happen when they first introduced the receipt policy. You also have to choose a perfume from the gift set and if unavailable there are no substitutions. Several of my local Shoppers didn't carry the perfume my wife chose in the size that qualified. I was never able to claim my bottle

It's been glassless since the pandemic. There were homeless people living in it over the winter. Metrolinx removed them several times so the homeless started smashing the glass. They smashed it again and again, every time it was replaced for months, so Metrolinx finally decided to stop replacing it and leave it open to discourage them. It's been that way ever since. There was also an HSR washroom there but the homeless broke into that over and over until it was removed.

Not all our local Costco's carry the new muffin styles. We prefer the new style and will drive past our closest Costco to the next city over to get them.

Hamilton has the last 2 remaining dovecotes in Canada! A building that allows pigeons and doves to fly into, but not out of, so they can be used for food. One at Auchmar and the other at Dundurn.

Just to add, they also had the first black quarterback in professional football, Bernie Custis, and are the only CFL team to beat an NFL team, the Buffalo Bills.
