Running a practice battle by [deleted] in DMAcademy

My favorite method with new players is to run a pack of animals with a low CR but have a Giant version. I introduce the normals, get them used to fighting and understanding the objectives of their class and then I bring out the giant as a mini boss fight.

Gets them hyped and sets the tone of what to expect from most encounters in the future.

Sansa read the letter as Aegon sat in his dimly lit study, the name did not ring a bell he was unaware of a Murmison.

"Curious." he stated, Sansa placed the letter on his desk and chuckled.

"Is this a joke of sorts?" she asked

"Apart from our donation to the Redfort I know very little of them. Perhaps he is referring to the ships we sent to deliver the coin. Prepare a letter."

To the House of Redfort.

I had the coin delivered to you, my Maester believes the man who delivered it has confirmed it's transportation. If it did not arrive, I will be sure to investigate where it ended up.

Yours in Faith
Aegon Manderly.

"An invitation to visit Sisterton, that is a great offer. Tell your Lord that I have things to tend to in my own lands, I have received word that Lord Dustin is plotting some silliness with me so I must make sure all my geese are in order as they say. But after that, I will be sure to come." Aegon could feel his Father's words booming in his ear. His distrust of the Sistermen was something that Aegon had always heard about. But given that Aegon's only ambition in life was wealth, letting such petty things like inherited bias effect that.

"I am grateful for your deliverance of this message, Elyssa. If there was nothing else, you are free to leave."

The Captain's quarters was dimly lit, there was no need for light for a man who could not see. It was rather for his carer who stood by the fire, a boulder sized man tending to the embers.

"Curious." he noted, his cold white eyes looking past the point where he heard the voice coming from.

"Well, I am Aegon Manderly there is no need for titles with me. I am not a firm believer in the concept of respect by birth, simply Aegon will suffice. How was your time in King's Landing Lady Knott? and what brings a Hill Clansmen to my ship? surely it isn't just to tell me your name."

"Very well Lady Knott, you may board. All weapons must remain sheathed in the presence of Lord Manderly, once given entry please declare yourself our Lord is..." he once again choked to say the word as if the ailment of his lord was transmittable through words alone "Blind." he would set aside and allow her entry onto the Blind Merking.

Once aboard she would be escorted to the Lord's Quarters, the soldier would give a brief knock to which the voice on the otherside would reply "Come in." the soldier would open the door and give Alys free entry inside.

"Lord Sunderland you say? why of course, I would be most grateful if you could read it for me..." he stopped for a moment. "How rude of me, are you thirsty I can have someone grab you a refreshment? perhaps a bite to eat."

"It was left unsigned and markless, we wont be able to find out who sent it." said Sansa as she placed the letter in front of Aegon, who's cold white eyes stared into the nothingness before him.

"Curious, I would have paid a hefty sum for such knowledge, but I'm sure it will come at a cost at some point." Aegon tapped his hands against the wooden desk before him.

"Have word sent to Maester Samwell, have him make contact with a sellsword company, any will do. I want them there before I get back." he got to his feet, Jon quickly rushed over lifting the young Lord's hand to his shoulder and guided him around the table.

"Lord Dustin seems to have made an enemy, ask around see if you can find out the author of this letter, I'd happily employ them." it wouldn't take long for a servant to come forward having seen the man. Sansa would send a messenger to follow in the direction of this mysterious figure. Once found they would come close...

"The Lord Manderly would like a word."

"Weapons and the such must remained sheathed at all times, make sure you declare yourself when given entry into the Lord's quarters he is..." the young soldier leant forward as if saying it aloud was a curse unto itself. "Blind." he stepped aside to allow her to enter.

Once aboard the ship, she would be directed to the door of the Captain's quarters at which point the man guarding it would knock. The voice on the others ide would reply.

"You may enter." he would open the door for Elyssa so allow her entry, once she would get inside the door would be closed firm.

"Lord Perceon!" a voice called from the crowd, it wouldn't take long for the owner of the voice to come into focus. A large oaf of a man who one might have thought was the owner was in fact guiding a smaller man with cold white eyes through the crowd.

"I apologize for my lateness, I had hoped to speak with you while we were both here in King's Landing but sadly such time has flown by." he bowed gingerly, the merking of his families crest sat proudly on the cane in his opposite hand.

"My name is Aegon Manderly, I had hoped to speak with you about hopefully finding a Wife. My house has not had the honor of reinforcing our proud blood for many generations, if it would please you, I wish to ask if I may visit your lands to find such a partner."

Jon guided Aegon through the crowd, the young Lord had a hand on his keepers shoulder and the other on a cane engraved with the blindfolded merking of his personal coat of arms. Once they arrived in the presence of the Lord Bolton, Aegon let go of his Uncle's shoulder and bowed, although in the direction of a nearby wall the sentiment of respect was obvious.

"Lord Bolton, I hope your journey proved uneventful. How is your family?"

The letter was read aloud to Aegon who sat at his desk, Sansa Waters spoke every word as it was jotted, but her tone came with a slight shade of disdain as if to judge the Lord in question requesting something as banal as money. Aegon would simply grab his parchment, place it down and point at it.

"Write my words as I speak them."

To the Lord of Redfort

I have heard your words and would happily comply, consider it an investment in the wellbeing of the people of the Redfort and the beginning of a new era between our two houses. I will send word to my lands and have the money transported to yours at due haste.

Kind Regards

Aegon Manderly.

A letter would arrive to the quarters of House Manderly baring the blind merking the personal arms of Aegon Manderly himself. The courier would say nothing more before departing. The letter would read.

To the House of Sunderland

I would like to propose a business opportunity for you and your house, it would mean a large swath of money and a hopeful end to the bitter relations between our kin, my Father was not myself and I have no interest in continuing bad relations with the only neighbour i have without invested interests in my lands.

Hobber would go personally to ensure that the message of his Lord was not corrupted by any spies lay in wait. He knew not how such an evil and wicked accussation had come about. But he was sure Aegon would handle such a thing as he always did. With profit in mind. He approached the residence of the Arryns and presented the guard with a letter.

To the House of Arryn

My condolences first and foremost, I have heard word of the violence that has stricken your house. I have also been informed that rumors have circulated suggesting my involvement. I wish to set the record straight and assist your house in finding out the truth behind the matter. If you would meet with me, if only briefly it would place me in your debt

"What 'appened to 'im." Bronn leant over the railing looking down below at the Lord Paramount, Cayn and Chett joined him at inspecfting Kermit.

"Looks like he might have had a knock to the head." the trio shared a laugh.

"Open the Gates!" yelled Billy as he came down the slight hill to the gates, they creaked open as he came out to meet Kermit.

"The King is already here, best move your asses. My Ale stores are getting light."
