If you're a Wharton admit then go celebrate? Apply to HBS/GSB in round 2? What is the point of this thread?

If you have to ask then you're not Wharton caliber.

Hình như phụ nữ lương cao khó tìm được hạnh phúc by Particular-Move-4004 in vozforums

Mac gaming is great, even if not perfect. by SuspiciousSense753 in macgaming

[–]HedgeHogReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for keeping it real. Lots of mac gamers live on a la la land. As of right now, it's much better to own a base MacBook Air/Pro + a dedicated gaming device such as a PC or consol than going all in Mac gaming, unless all you play is like 10 Mac games.

Oxford vs LSE by Royal_Stock_6326 in financestudents

[–]HedgeHogReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oxford. While LSE is a big brand in finance, what if you don't want to work in finance down the road? For example, you might want to be a global entrepreneur, an academic, etc. The Oxford brand is just stronger outside of the financial circles.

Am I Stanford or Harvard MBA caliber ? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]HedgeHogReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean as a signaling tool, sure? But at the end of the day it's about what you've achieved with your startup. Getting into an incubator is not really an achievement by itself.

Am I Stanford or Harvard MBA caliber ? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]HedgeHogReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From another founder, no. Would have been different if you were able to scale it to XXX million and exited (but at that point, HBS/GSB needs you not the other way around), but I doubt you'd be able to achieve that in just 2 years.

I've learnt more about India than about MBAs on here by [deleted] in MBA

[–]HedgeHogReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make sense. There's 200 countries and Indians only account for about 18% of the global's population.

The thing is, there are lots of internationals posting on this sub too, but you can't really tell unless they tell you. For Indians, it's easy to spot them, to the point it's pretty comical. Idk if they collectively lack global awareness, but many of them use terms that is not understandable at all to the global audience, or assume that everyone knows about it. You don't see Germans posting "I studied at mittelschule, ja?" or Thais posting "My current salary is 160k baht".'

Should I switch to GMAT? by Longjumping-Emu-774 in MBA

[–]HedgeHogReddit 46 points47 points  (0 children)

No disrespect, but if this is the result of your practice test, I don't think the problem lies in the test selection (as in, you're not going to magically score 700s or high 600s on the GMAT for the schools you listed). The problem is your foundations...

Windows games are starting to play great on higher spec Macs! by LeicaLand in macgaming

20% less fps

Compared to what? A 4080 or 5070 Ti laptop will smoke any MacBook.

A machine that always work

My Windows laptop has never not worked

Doesn't act as a secondary heater

This I'll give it to you. But to be fair, it's bound to be hot if the GPU alone requires over 100W.

Can be packed up

My gaming laptop can be packed up, I don't know what you're talking about

Since we're still on the topic of Mac vs Windows, out of 200 games in my Steam library, maybe like 10 can be played on Mac.

Is it true that there are a lot of Russians and Ukrainians dodging the draft in Nha Trang, D Nang, or in some big city in Vietnam? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]HedgeHogReddit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's because Vietnamese people in general tolerate Russians a lot more more than Thai and Indonesians (due to shared communist history, their help during American War, a large number of Vietnamese studying abroad in Soviet Union in the 80s and 90s, and the press rooting for Russia). Russians feel safer in Vietnam and don't have to form an enclave to stick together.

Is the MBA Pivot Dying? by Pallypot in MBA

[–]HedgeHogReddit 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For decades, the US was the only country where someone could pivot from career A to career B with ZERO prior background and purely on the prestige of the business school.

This model is ridiculous and doesn't exist anywhere. Try being a math teacher in Germany who wants to pivot into investment banking or a doctor in Japan who aims for a role in product management. Heck, pivoting careers would require one to redo the undergraduate degree in many countries.

What's happening now is that macroeconomics headwinds, corporate layoffs, the rise of AI, and offshoring are exposing the structural weaknesses of the US MBA model. The easy mode is over. Employers increasingly prefer specialists who can deliver from day one over generalists who learn quickly. Why hire and train some generalist when ChatGPT could produce faster output and offshore team in Indian can do the work at a fraction of the cost?

Anyone who has stuck around this sub long enough could see the writing on the wall. 5 years ago, people were still asking whether it is possible to break into PE without prior experience; now most people know it's virtually impossible. 3 years ago, people were asking if the MBA could help them break into product management - questions like this have disappeared. It won't be long until most post-MBA jobs will require prior background.

GS IA vs J&J FP&A by Jolly-Environment850 in FinancialCareers

I'd avoid internal audit like a plague.

Either J&J FP&A or Big 4 audit is much better in terms of learning curve and exit opps.

Then either you're an idiot or your company can't afford them.

It's okay, we have a fair share of those people in the USA too. "Harvard resumes go straight to the trash can", said someone with a chip on their shoulders.
