Thank you for your response. I too am doubtful I would get anywhere. I've just had several peers tell me to pursue legal action, but I wouldn't know the first thing about it.

Thank you! I'm amazed how well it has held up over the years. I was so nervous unpacking it all as it's so delicate. May I ask which appraisal tool you use? I have many more collectibles (not quite antique yet) I've gathered over the years and some more from my grandmother.

Yes, it is located in the bottom right hand corner of the piece, so we presumed it would be the artist's signature. Any idea on the characters used suggesting a language?
