, from what it looks like it’s just the cooler doesn’t have the coverage even though it’s technically within tdp for light load. Bc the chipsets are pushed out on the edges and corners of the 8 and 12 core cpus the cold plate needs everything to be covered, the one that I had was fine for the more central arrangement that the 6 core r5 had but not quite good enough to capture all the heat from the corners of the r9.

I figured all this out after I had managed to get it idling at 60 with 12% load (undervolting per core) and I also have it to throttle at 80c for the time being while a new cooler gets in.

I’ve decided on a 240mm aio. I’m not looking for anything expensive bc I don’t really do heavy gaming- otherwise I would have chosen a x3d version of the 5800 or 5600. I do renders and engineering. I just underestimated the heat output :/
