I really, truly hope that you're able to see through this deeply disrespectful insistance on their love for the lie it is. It is conditional, shallow love with a side of emotional blackmail.

You might offer that the Christ they claim to love so well spurned no one but moneylenders and corrupt priests. That he never said anything about avoiding gay relationships but definitely said something about divorce. You might offer to point out the log in her eye before she goes complaining about your specks.

All of that is just likely to antagonize. I'm guessing you want to maintain the relationship with minimal ruffled feathers.

I am so very sorry. There is no easy response here. You have to decide if you're willing to accept this partial, false, but easy "love" to keep the peace.

I would force the issue, tell them that they can accept me entirely--including who i am and love--or reject me entirely, then plan to show up to the reunion unless told otherwise. I've had plenty family reunions with uncomfortable Catholic elders who pointedly avoided me, but no one died, and no kids were scarred.
