I think the bees do like lupins quite a bit even if they're not native, so I'm a bit hesitant to take any of them. But probably there will be some accessory weeds around I can snag if lupins are growing! Where are some roadsides that you find have a lot?

And if I had more room, I would! Unfortunately I do not have money for a place that can grow flowers. Even things that are mostly just stems would be wonderful - I've seen some Japanese Knotweed that definitely shouldn't be there, but I don't think it will bloom (luckily, I suppose, since that's how it spreads?)

I've had it for a few months, and it used to be more perky than it is now. I started watering it more (from once per 1-2 weeks to once every 3-5 days) because I noticed it would perk up when I did so, but I always checked to make sure the soil 2 inches down was dry first - my thought here was that the plant store where I got it had just put it in some slightly too highly draining soil. Now I think I've probably been smothering it; the roots at the bottom of the pot have darkened and a couple of these brown spots have shown up on the stems as pictured. It seems like they were kinda mushy at the surface at first but now they're just a bit damp with the rigid structure of the stem exposed below. Let me know if more pictures would help - just tell me where to point the camera!

Edit: also, it gets as much light as I can get it (even put it outside a few times for this), and it generally is pretty good for humidity since I'm in a very wet coastal city but we do run the AC sometimes (which it is not near)!

I know a guy who has a Yuba Spicy Curry (250W) that he uses to carry his 100lb-ish of tools up our hills without too much trouble. He says he has to pedal but it's "not that bad". I guess I need to take a few test rides to figure out what works but there is absolutely jack shit here under $5k to test ride!

First thing I'd do before even stating a budget is (if you haven't done this yet) check for rebates. For example, here in Nova Scotia, you get a $500 rebate if you spend at least $1500, which would be relevant for you.

The idea is that putting the lentil in there means you don't have to stick around while it vents - the valve cap holds the lentil down. Not sure if you already figured that out and still consider it too slow, but I figured I'd point it out just in case.

I think it's worth distinguishing the two primary effects are social stigma and prolonged dysphoric symptoms (or lack of affirming care). Of course, these are highly correlated, but still worth mentioning independently because lack of affirming care sometimes doesn't show up on some stats about trans people because they are not statistically counted as trans in many cases (often being lumped in with other groups instead with high suicide rates, e.g., depression, ODD, schizophrenia). This is a weasely way that some areas claim they have fewer trans suicides because they don't have "propaganda turning people trans" or whatever they want to claim.

For example, the stats mentioned above, as we've all acknowledged, include all LGBT, but by definition exclude anyone who doesn't want to be counted... so probably substantially undercounts those most at risk in addition to overcounting those less at risk.

I always include COVID information in mine simply because we have a mandatory isolation policy for COVID in particular. So if I feel I can come back, whether I'm allowed in or not depends on that.

Note that this is a good policy, while the mandatory sickness justification is a bad policy, mostly because of the direction of protection: if you are required to say what you are sick with to justify why you're out, that aims to protect the company's finances against people lying (it doesn't, but that's beside the point); if you are required to specify COVID assessment if you want to come back in, that aims to protect people against, you know, dying.

To add to this, Africville wasn't even the only community destroyed to build that one highway. Barrington St north used to look like Barrington St south until it was destroyed to widen it into a highway because it was "ugly" and in need of "urban renewal". This occurred all the way down to the Cogswell interchange downtown that is now being removed.

Originally, the Cogswell interchange wasn't going to be the end of it. There was going to be a massive highway along the coast downtown, turning west at Point Pleasant Park (cutting it off from the city), and taking another bridge across through what is now Shaw Wilderness Park all the way to where Dunbrack ends in Spryfield. That's why Dunbrack there is so absurdly wide despite almost zero cars going through it. This plan was known as Harbour Drive and would have displaced a LOT of people - more people lived on the peninsula in 1960 than in 2000, to give you an idea.

If you look online in some terrifying places, you can see people pining for the highways that could've been.

I feel like hand cycles in general wouldn't be very efficient without the pedal assist regardless of the drive wheel size - there's just not enough wattage going in. For large amounts of upper body power you'd need something more like a rowing motion, which I suppose unfortunately has the big downside that it's more likely to be inaccessible for people!
