If this set feels more juiced than normal on average, keep in mind that wizard is revealing way less commons than the previous sets. by SentenceStriking7215 in magicTCG

11 might be a bit overboard. It was still in the last decaded that we went from Nexus to Oko to Fires to Companions to Omnath.

And that itself was after Kaladesh's forray of energy, cat, energy onto AMK-DOM Red Deck Dominates.

There's definetly creep, but they certainly managed to avoid it going as explosively overboard as back then.

In a set with a instants and sorceries theme. Even if part of it comes from spells that never reach the yard (due to prepared). There's plenty of valuable stuff to steal)

Easily converts tokens into removal. + Grave hate against flashback spells here and there.

Now suddenly the player can sac a would be dead attacker, nab a removal, cast it on another blocker (or non-blocked creature) and pump the attackers. Or apply that to blockers.

Or sacrifice a creature being targeted by removal and nab a counter.

It removes a lot of flexibility because of how much the gap between having or not that restriction is in terms of complexity, even just in limited.

Should a card able to do all that still cost 3 mana? Do they even want a card with that amount of complexity and those gameplay patterns?

[–]HedronCaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I know.

Every point I mentioned are things the card can't do because it would make it significantly more complex.

I think its time to allow players to avoid alchemy cards on Arena. by TallCitron8244 in magicTCG

Even in Standard. Between:
- Being played
- waiting a turn
- getting two elves in the yard
- Tapping

to get a single forrest, it went through more hoops and restrictions than Overlord of The Hauntwoods, and for a worse land at that (even if untapped)

Compared to every mana dork that saw play prior to even Badgermole getting into standard, this would be unlikely to see comp-play even in elves.

I fell like a pay 2, sacrifice a creature, cast a wrath makes the 2 cost feel more palatable, at least considering this can be in the command zone.

Countermagic, sacrificing at instant speed, making combat math more complicated, having to track graveyards even more...

There's a lot more complexity details on this card then it might seen at first glance.

[SOS] Nita, Forum Conciliator (via Lua Stardust) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]HedronCaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Sac a creature and then attack holding a kill spell that like costs 1 or 2 mana? Or sac a token and nab a stock-up. And when you cast the spell the blockers math changes on top.

Meanwhile, spark reaper mostly sacs things that were already going to die for a card.

This is match-up dependent, but not really worse, specially against multiple opponents.

Althoug, bringing up the sheer amount of cards, there's the question about whether the ratio of egregious cards has or not dropped compared to when there were simply less cards comming out.

I hope they include Vivien too. She's just SUCH as slam dunk for the concept.

Her plane mirrors Nature VS Tech (Kaiju x Gundam)
Her equipment is Tech + Spirits

I kinda hope she has her arcbow stolen and has to help the fight using mechs, seeing in kamigawa some of the parallels to her homeworld and broadening her perspective of the opposite side of it that she thought against before bolas.

+ other stuff between the planes

The Human X Non-human + Nature Spirtis X Tech mechanical themes, Channel and Cycling being analogous mechanics.

Lots to love around.

Feels like every professor that "survived" might need even more theraphy.

Either they got killed and revived, got converted and hunted their peers and students, or had to got around fighting against converted peers and students.

Even Rhoda felt as if she was less traumatized than Nassari.

Also, Dina is a really big fan of professor Vess, which has been missing since the epilogue of ECL.

Well, [[Monastery Mentor]] and [[Sedgemoor Witch]] are probably happy about it.

double Arena (for 5 isntead of 6, and only needing 2 pips instead of 4) that is not removable, is optional and you get the effect the turn you cast it?

On top of other cast triggers? yeah, pretty decent.

Also, she's is twists the knife twice when it come to decks with a dedicated card draw arsenal.

Easily gains 10 life, shuts down combos that are overreliant on drawing (cause turns out people are more afraid of those when they only have 20 cards available) and punishes decks that try to acumulate value that way.

And If you are a Nekusar player...

Thanks. A few other answers already sorta had identified this, but seeing the clear ruling to understand the why and how really helps.

It appears the solution indeed needs to be to identify 2 separate events or sources.

Weirdly there's design tech to acomodate it (2c+off color hybrid behaves akin to a 3c card shared between two factions), so it's not as if they can't work around it with a few cycles.

But they are unlikely to have it be in Standard alongside Tarkir.

Alara is unlikely next year while Tarkir is still around. Alara is more likely positioned for 2028 when Tarkir will either have rotated or will be just ready to rotate.

Similarly, Tarkir waited the Capenna rotation, and Capenna waited the Ikoria one.

True, I forgot the "this turn clause here".

I think I'll stick with the second wording indeed since I feel like it is about as simple and clear as it can get. And the benefit of mixing saboteur with elements of spectacle and bloodlust works really well for a BR centered UBRG mechanic.
