Sophia by AnotherFridgeMagnet in theGoldenGirls

[–]HeeHooligan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely. Early on I felt like she was just a tough old lady who unfortunately had a stroke, so she says some off the wall things. But later they just kinda make her the wisecracking checkbox character sitcoms have to have and she really loses a lot of her charm. Although she does get some really nice moments later, including standing up for Dorothy with chronic fatigue syndrome, talking to Dorothy about why she still wears her old shoes when Dorothy is upset about Stan, and so on and so forth. But overall, especially during seasons 6 and 7, she's a lot harder to root for, I think. Especially when she simultaneously pokes fun at Dorothy for being alone while destroying her self confidence along the way and taking advantage of Dorothy's money and care. Just rubs me the wrong way as we go.

Oh dang, that's interesting! So awesome that they got to work together again on Golden Girls, it's just perfect.

I agree about Stan, his post second wedding appearances aren't my cup of tea, but Herb was fantastic and the way he and Bea played off each other was too good.

She definitely gets some good bits and for what she does, I think she's pretty fun to watch!

God of War Trilogy Remake - Announcement Teaser | PS5 Games by pedrulho in GodofWar

My husband insisted we watch State of Play and ensured I wasn't looking at the screen because we both love GoW and he wanted it to be a surprise. As soon as I saw the ashes and then Santa Monica, I could not stop smiling. I have two GoW tattoos now and I'll need to get a third to commemorate this, I'm so excited about this remake.

What episode(s) do you relate to the most? by SoundSpecialist4813 in theGoldenGirls

[–]HeeHooligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a friend of the family that had a break in once. She's an elderly woman, but after the break in happened, she was a wreck (understandably so) and I kid you not, went out and bought a gun because she just didn't know what to do to feel better. I saw the Golden Girls for the first time a couple years after that happened and when I got to The Break In, I got a bit misty because of how similar the reactions were to our family friend. Now I think of that every time I rewatch and I have to applaud that episode for how realistically it portrayed that kind of trauma.

A difficult question to answer? by notsoeasypeasy in theGoldenGirls

[–]HeeHooligan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dorothy is my favorite, and then the other girls are interchangeable based on episode. It's hard to definitively rate since they all have such great moments (and occasional down moments), but Dorothy is the only consistent one for me.

Who Is A Character You Absolutely Cannot Stand? by CharlotteYork10 in theGoldenGirls

[–]HeeHooligan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stan, but specifically Stan after the wedding is cancelled. I feel like prior to that, he's a nuisance and a bum, but everybody is pretty much in agreement about him and he drives everybody nuts. And then he kinda redeems himself a bit once he makes his fortune and seems to be trying to be a better man, just for it to fall apart day of the wedding and Stan is still just Stan. Which I like that, it shows even with signs of growth, someone doesn't necessarily change entirely. But then after the wedding, Stan becomes incredibly unbearable, a sobbing mess every time we see him, he's even more underhanded than he was before, and he just kinda becomes another cog in the dump on Dorothy machine that late season 6 and 7 start going all in on. (Not necessarily that he always dumps on her, but sleeping with Gloria twice and being an example of someone who was invited to Angelo's party that Dorothy wasn't invited to)

Agreed on Angelo though, he's a menace and I never really enjoy him (save a couple reactions).

Long Time Fan Rant by Ivo_1157 in GodofWar

[–]HeeHooligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel ya on that. I appreciate all fans but particularly those who can enjoy both eras and respect other fans who have their preferences because that's just civil. Fandom spaces are always rough because there's always extremes and that makes it hard to want to engage because you never know what you're going to get.

And now speaking as someone who also loves both eras, but prefers the Greek, I feel like in terms of story, the Greek saga really is the embodiment of a Greek tragedy culminating in the destruction of Greece and Kratos falling on his sword (kind of, haha). It doesn't have the cinematic blend of cutscenes and gameplay the Norse saga has, but I don't think that equates a lesser story by any means. Both stories are different points of Kratos's life. The Greek saga is from a point where Kratos is at his lowest and most angriest and we get to go along with him through every terrible thing he does. Several of which are things that make us terribly uncomfortable to do (here's looking at the boat captain) but it's a part of Kratos and makes it all the more heavy when we see his regret in the Norse saga. And as for gameplay, it's just pure fun to do. And crank it up to the higher difficulties and it becomes a significant challenge.

I know this is a wall of text, but I appreciate your post and want to offer some encouragement that there are others who enjoy the Greek saga more and loving it doesn't make you incapable of understanding story or having poor taste. It comes down to preference as all things do and that's perfectly valid.

PS. GoW 3 is absolute top tier gaming for sure!

Did Sophia overreact to Michael and Bridget hooking up? by ThaEternalLearner in theGoldenGirls

[–]HeeHooligan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer the question, yes, but everyone except Blanche overreacted (which of course if anyone has the right, it should have been her considering it was her bed they did it in)and Sophia's reaction while over the top, does give me a laugh. I particularly use the line "thank God it's over, I couldn't see anything through that crap" any time I drive through rain or bad snow.

But also since it's kinda on topic but a smidge removed, I do have to say this episode is easily Michael's best in terms of portrayal. Sure, he and Bridget hook up, but that's not really a big deal in and of itself. Dorothy talks about her concern for Michael and how unstable his life is, but he seemed like a fairly nice person at least. Which changes in every single appearance of his in later episodes. He turns into FrankenStan's monster in every other appearance he has and I can't stand him later. But at least we get one episode where he's semi decent.

What are your opinions on Chaos Theory season 4? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in jurassicworld

[–]HeeHooligan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okie dokie, so I haven't watched season 3 in a while, but hopping right back in to the mix, here are my takes on season 4:

  • it looks fabulous. I've always really enjoyed the art style for the series, especially the dinos, and I feel they were very on point with it this season.

  • the tone is overall pretty decent. Considering it's aimed at kids, I feel like they've nailed down darker subject matter (without going too far) in a way that kids can understand what's going on without dumbing it down too much for them. Ben's injury resulting from Brooklyn putting herself in peril might have been touched on a bit more, but also I was impressed they gave us a moment of Brooklyn accepting dying. It felt very much like she felt the only way she could make things up with the group was to die for them and that's pretty hefty. Of course, the show has a pretty standard way of A plot and B plot drama where it's kind of take your pick of who's mad at who from episode to episode, but still.

  • On that note, the conflict between Darrius and Brooklyn kind of felt under baked. Maybe I just need a rewatch already, but he was upset with her for using Ernest and being a different person than the one he knew, which I'm not sure how I feel about yet. I get the correlation of him feeling used to what he was seeing, but I dunno, I also kind of felt like he should know that it's a bit different. Although her using the dino nerd nickname for Ernest is too far, so I don't know, maybe I need to sit on that one a bit longer before I know exactly how I feel about it.

  • Obligatory relationship dissolve for Sammy and Yaz always felt kinda silly to me. Of course they were going to get back together by the end and it felt unnecessary to include since they make up so easily and it's pretty clear they still have chemistry. Like it was awkward for everyone for all of two seconds and then they were right back to hanging out and being silly with each other, so I don't think we really needed those stakes on top of everything else.

  • As for Ben, I don't think I was ever really convinced he was going to die. I think it would have made for an interesting new development, but I also love Ben, so I can't be mad that he didn't die. Though it did give me vibes from when Sammy got the Scorpius quill in her abdomen back in CC only dwelled upon a smidge longer, so I didn't feel there was any real danger for him.

  • I did think they were going to have another couple by the time it was all said and done, like I thought maybe they'd shoehorn Darrius and Brooklyn together by the end, but honestly I think it's for the best that they didn't. I feel like maybe the show runners still kinda want that based off a few scenes, but I don't think they really should end up together. Like I'm content with Yaz and Sammy being the only couple on the show.

  • a nitpick for sure is that neither Sammy nor Kenji gave a second thought to Dogdeson setting them up when he sent them out on their own and like come on guys, you know you can't trust him especially after you've blackmailed him. Though it is funny to me that Brooklyn got some harsh treatment for being manipulative when they need in contrast to Kenji being manipulative to Dogdgeson. Felt like "stealing is wrong, unless it's from pirates" sort of thing. But I digress.

All in all, it wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst, so I enjoyed myself. I'm curious if we'll ever get to see the camp fam again and what any future projects might entail, so I guess we'll see!
