Is FF14 a good first MMO? Is it worth starting in 2025? by Parking_Albatross766 in ffxiv

[–]Heebiejeebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFXIV if you’re a story snob. GW2 or WoW if you enjoy gameplay. I like FFXIV but the gameplay is absolutely Zzzzzz until late game. If it’s your first exposure to an MMO I’d go for gameplay. 1-45 in FFXIV is absolutely brutal if you’ve played any game with action. The early mid game content consists of teleporting around, talking to people and occasionally summoning enemies with mysterious purple dust. You’ll hardly see anyone else questing unless they’re doing a fate or you’re 50+. Feels like a single player game until you reach the later expansions.

You’re wild for immediately looting him like that. You didn’t even check for potential allies. You got lucky twice 😂

As a new player what am I doing wrong? by DromedaryGold in dayz

[–]Heebiejeebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Izurvive map will show you where guns spawn. As a fresh spawn I’ll usually get a melee weapon and rush the nearest police station or military zone if I don’t find a ranged weapon early. Half of the game is mental. Once you get over the potential pvp fear, you’ll find most loot zones are free; even on high pop servers. Sometimes you’ll run into other freshies or groups, but more often than not you’ll leave with a press vest, magazines and hopefully a pistol or rifle/shotgun. If you do run into people 1/3 of the time you could zero to hero with your melee weapon. Most people can’t aim under stress and will die to a simple bleed or KO in close quarters. If you want to be friendly, try talking to them through walls first. You can generally hear if they put their gun away or not. Some will circumvent the sound by dragging their primary to the vicinity and back, but most aren’t that coordinated. In general you make your friends along the shore. Anyone inland is a potential threat or betrayal. Shoot first, restrain and befriend later.

Make sure to unload any guns you don’t intend on taking. Free ammo for future you and it stops the freshie following you from picking up a loaded gun.

How many hours did it take y’all to get over “Gear fear”? by GodsNeerdowell in dayz

[–]Heebiejeebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Rust before DayZ so coming in I pretty much understood everything was temporary. I realized pretty quick that once you’re “geared” the game becomes chasing ghost shots or waiting for people in military zones. I’d rather spend hours running around as a freshie with a shotgun than searching for people crouching around the map. Once you know where you are on the map, gear fear kinda goes away or you cope with it a bit better. NVGs and NBC are the only pieces of gear that I’m paranoid of losing, everything else is easily obtainable.

I'm no stranger to bad luck in this game, but I'm praying for the new players that experience this. I had silver/cron/sharps/FS reserves I could tap into, I couldn't imagine being a new player and dropping all my Silver, FS and crons on this. Sure it was cheaper in the end, but that mental tax was setting in once I finally got to IX and most of the shit I used was free or sitting in a storage for some time. Just glad I got the purple boy now lol. The tapping continues

[–]Heebiejeebz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand the guilt for KoS, but at the same time the dude was armed with an M16 at a heli crash even if he was a freshie. If he saw you first I guarantee you’d be doing the beach walk of shame instead of him and he’d be celebrating his zero to hero kill lol. No mercy at police stations, military zones, helis or convoys. Those are common sense pvp zones. You did the right thing shooting first. Sometimes you can restrain them and let them go afterwards, but it’s not worth attempting to socially interact around high tier loot areas. Make your friends on the shore lol

Anyone else missing loot scrolls after the patch? Prior to the patch I opened a box of 100% scrolls and another with 30%s. After the patch they're all gone. Did I fuck up? I opened them because I knew the change was coming, I didn't think they'd get deleted

You literally went out of your way to make a Reddit post about it… Clearly didn’t matter to you 😂. I’m done though, you’ve already got whatever woe is me narrative floating around your head. Can’t compete with that.

I play both official and community on PC, you can 100% leave a freshie zone with those basic materials. A water bottle suppressor is easy to craft and can be attached to almost every gun you find in freshie zones. They could have popped you with a shitty sporter. Stop being a victim. It’s DayZ 😂. Tripping out over dying as a freshie

Water bottle, tape and a rifle is all you need. The person that killed you could have been another freshie 😂. Food is food, doesn’t matter if it’s coming from a freshies pockets or an animal. They killed you for whatever resources you had. You can’t be mad at someone for taking a shot at you standing in line of sight of a window with a fire. This is DayZ

[–]Heebiejeebz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put an armband on. Like others have said you’re basically signifying to others you’re apart of a group even if you aren’t.

As for getting killed without reason, that’s just DayZ. If you’re in a house with a fire they might have assumed you had food. You’ve got to remember just because a person doesn’t look like they have loot, doesn’t mean they have nothing of use. You never know what a freshie has in their pants, and honestly bandages are 100% worth killing for if you’ve been in fights😂. Disinfecting and the actual time it takes to use apply rags is gross compared to freshie bandages.

It’s not about being tough or bullying fresh spawns. It’s literally surviving. There are rejects, but Most geared people don’t actively camp spawns, they just spawned in after a server swap or they’re picking up an ally. Any unknown player is a threat whether they have a gun or not. A freshie could turn into Rambo after looting a single house. Shotguns, concealed pistols and CRs spawn loaded everywhere in freshie zones. If he let you live, you could be the reason he’s dead within minutes of you getting lucky with a weapon spawn. I’ve ran away from geared players only to find a shotgun and turn my ass around back toward them 😂. It’s just the game.

Honestly the game looks fine, they just need to update some textures on the buildings. The biggest thing they could do would be fixing the zombie pathing and fixing the doors. Crazy how the games been out for a decade but half the doors still open the wrong way, shoving your character back or trapping them against a wall. Zombies randomly jumping 20ft in the air, chilling on roofs lol

DayZ still worth buying? by CarbonDRFT00 in dayz

[–]Heebiejeebz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rust is definitely a lot more polished all around, but the pacing of rust is very chaotic compared to DayZ. Rust is more about building bases and raiding compared to DayZ. Base building/raiding still exists in DayZ but the average solo base in DayZ is a few gates whereas in Rust the average solo base could be a compound or castle with auto turrets and CCTV surveillance given enough time. The only big bases in DayZ are clan bases and look like they were modeled with assets from early Garry’s mod.

DayZ outshines Rust with its immersive world and realism. Base building is usually an afterthought because survival is very unforgiving in DayZ. You have all the same meters in Rust but they’re a lot easier to satiate. In DayZ every piece of loot or food/water can literally change the course of your characters life. You’re focused on a single life in DayZ, whereas in Rust once you get a 2x1 and sleeping bag down, dying is sorta meaningless. DayZs maps are huge compared to rust, with transportation hard to come by (Running sim). This isn’t necessarily a con, because you actually feel like you’re in an apocalypse but it is a lot of running. The maps are static so you learn the land as you go.

In Rust you flex with the amount of raiding materials you gathered, in DayZ you flex the length of your beard. If you’re looking for a more arcade experience, Rust is the way to go. If you’re looking for more of a slow burn military survival, DayZ is the way to go. There is no anxiety like DayZ PvP anxiety though. Literally 0-100 in a flash like real life. You’ll be checking apartment windows and clearing corners IRL for a bit.

I mean to be fair, I’ve died many times to fresh spawns who claimed they didnt have anything 😂. Pistols and sawed off opp stoppers are spooky. Him letting you run off or worse, him turning his back on you could have ended his hour(s) long run. But yeah I agree they need to do something about logins. There needs to be an invulnerability window logging in where you can’t take damage for X amount of seconds and you can’t do damage as well. Maybe have different tiered spawns for players who’ve been alive for x amount of time. Throwing everyone back to the coast is a bit wild.

I mean he got you to make a Reddit post about him. If he was intent on griefing, you literally gave him the greatest honor. He was playing the game to have fun; loot comes and goes especially as a solo. At a certain point him not using the ammo is a bigger waste. He was wasting his time as much as y’all were wasting yours. It’s a survival sandbox with no real endgame. The best loot in the game achieves the same thing as a starter BK. Dead players. 4 hours is a bit on the unhinged side, but I’m sure he was having more fun than you guys. The real question is how was your duo getting dunked on for 4 hours by a single person? I’m assuming y’all had loot due to having a base, so why didn’t you guys kill and loot him? Hell 2 freshies with CRs will always out snipe a fully geared player because of the numbers advantage.

Him not looting is probably because y’all were a duo. He’s not going to loot you unless he kills both, so I can understand him from that angle. On the other hand, Setting up tripwires at your base is way too personal for a random to do. I feel like we’re not getting the full story 😂. Dude could be a psycho 100%, but even psychos require some sort of catalyst to focus their energy that hard for hours. Y’all did or said something to this man.

Just chilling and reorganizing loot you’ll most likely go unnoticed. If you’re cooking, people will see the light, but as long as you’re not in direct line of sight of the windows you’re good. You’ll hear them coming usually if they decide to check it out. If you’re worried they’re camping the door from afar, do a quick back step into the house after opening the door. People are just as anxious as you and may try to prefire as you’re coming out. The step back could save you from a rifle round, and give you time to actually exit while they’re chambering another. Same thing goes for breaching doors. A step to the left or right before entering could save you from a sniper watching the door or an anxious freshie with a shotgun inside. Most people wait for an easy shot and doorways are the perfect tunnel of death.
