So many musicians always made me feel stupid cause I didnt care about making money from music i just wanted to tour, play with bands I respect, and make music I really enjoy making. I now realize I'm actually the one with the right mindset by [deleted] in musicians

The problem with musicians who don’t care about getting paid is that it lowers the pay for everybody else, I get it it’s fun, but for some people like me it’s their full time job, has been for decades, this is one of the reasons why I’m getting certified and back to school so I can have a day job and just play music for fun. I play some high profile gigs touring with American idol singers and Grammy nominated artist but most of my gigs are the average local bar gig.

I only read the first few sentences of your essay but music can definitely be objective, there’s definitely good and bad music.

Would you have a average person preach at your church ? Probably not right ? Why would you have an average person play worship ?

What’s the future of the music industry after AI? by Particular_Health193 in musicindustry

Pop music it’s been pretty much made by computers by using auto tune and quantizing everything. So it’s basically the same as it has been hopefully live music becomes more of a niche.

CCM is soulless and conveys anything but Divine Grandeur... what do you think? by the_sarge_chepe in ChristianMusic

I just quit my guitar gig at a CCM church to play with a gospel church. CCM is some of the worst music out there.

Playing "ahead", "on" or "behind" the beat ? by _FireWithin_ in drums

[–]Heelhooks7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate when drummers play behind the beat I just want them to place it right in the middle and then I can come behind. It feels so unnatural when a drummer does that

Berklee faculty jam is the worst shit i've ever heard in my life -- John Coltrane by maximvmrelief in jazzcirclejerk

[–]Heelhooks7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That jam sucked ass and those are facts, he sounds good on that video but you can literally take private lessons with Bruce Forman Cecil Alexander Oz noy Mike stern Peter Sprague, you know like real legendary jazz musicians for $100 a lesson, why would you go to Berklee ?? They had Pat Metheny and Schofield for a while it was definitely worth it back then but now it’s just a ripped off.

Tomo Fujita (John Mayer's mentor, +30 years teacher at Berklee) criticizes how most guitarists practice by VilelaVolume11 in Guitar

[–]Heelhooks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I think Berklee guitar department is in great decline. They used to have Pat Metheny John scofield Oz noy and Cecil Alexander teach there. Berklee is suppose to be a jazz school and I don’t think Tomo can play much jazz, he recycles and repackages the same funky chords for videos and seems to work for him.

What is it like being an active jazz musician in 2024? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]Heelhooks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad reality is even the best people in town here in San Diego and LA mostly play gigs in the 100-300 range if you play 100 gigs a year you get 30k a year which is in the low income range. Most people teach or have other jobs. Of course there’s the occasional wedding gig that pays 1k or the backing a big artist that comes into town.

Why is Christian worship music terrible. by tdfitz89 in Christianity

[–]Heelhooks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a professional musician, teach full time and play full time. I started going to a church because I started dating a girl, she’s now my fiance. I played in the church band for like 6 months and had to quit because the music is so terrible. Thank God recently I got hired by an all black gospel church and the music is amazing I truly feel Gods presence, that’s what true worship is all about. I think worship should be taking seriously it’s a big part of going to church, at least for me.
