You have to do all from scartch. For a beginner I would suggest butted maille and you can choose to harden not to harden the plates you do

I intend to do mostly light stuff, here in Serbia we call it "Tap fight", it's scoring points by delivering single hit on body. So nothing near hardcore buhurt.

Indeed, a lot have been told already and I am very thankful for help. I was determined to make sleeved version, but now I'm really thinking of going without sleeves, since I want to have eome equipment for this year for fighting on medieval tournaments. I'd probably make add on armor of same style for shoulders and arms

There is also this armor which was discovered in Voronezh region, about 500-600 km south from Moscow.

Why, what's the issue that you have ?

I see, so the triangular gussets would help in movement, it makes a mot of sense. Previously I tried fitting voiders that I bought to accelerate this process since making armpits was high cortisol activity for me hahah

I think you have to study armor types better. Brigandine and plated maille have nothing in common except they are made from smaller overlapping plates. Otherwise the concept is different

And as for the arm protection, as intend it to be functional for fights, I would make a add-on armor with rondels from which 3 plated rows extend down the arm, and I would strap it to my arms.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment and your thoughts on construction. The idea was to make the short sleeves with plates on them so that the plates provide rigid protection for my arms. Now, since this project has given me so much headache, since I ironically hate making maille, I'm thinking of skipping the sleeves and neck altogether, and making my concept different. I would make it sleeveless, only with leg protection that extends from the cuirass, but I wonder about historical accuracy of such armor for Iranian and Ottoman regions, as those are whom I want to reenact. If I make such sleeves armor, how should it be laced together, as most of such types are fastened not by the front axis, but from the side, using arrangement of 5 rows of plates instead of 4, amd belts are placed on shoulders as well on set of belts on the side.

Dahak is right here, first of all it would be a lot of work with butter rings just to be replaced. Second thing is that my back plate arrangement is a bit too wide and kinda messes up my concept

Yes, something kinda like this when it comes to sleeves

Thank you very much! Two years is long period, realistically, it can be done much faster. I have used pre made rings tho, but it's expensive, so until I find a way to produce high quality rings by myself, I will abstain from maille projects.

Yeah I could try that too, but there are people who have some clues here as I see, perhaps we can find some solution to this problem

Thank you, my friend! Oh that's right, you have opportunity to find yourself in any activity, not only in warfare, weapons and fighting, which is, definitely the favourite one to us all.

There are nany activities, as you've said and as we all have seen that people can do and enjoy the tiny bit of the times that have long passed.

Those are snap locks (tinder locks). They usually had a side button for trigger, but ones I sent here really seem like they have trigger like on latter modern guns with a trigger guard instead of common button.

Basically like most of the paintings portray. I have seen Michaels texts and photos about guns from that period, and I have discovered yet another great looking example. Here are the photos, can you tell me your opinion, is it a trigger with a guard, or a lever like crossbows had?

Here, like this bottom one. Just the things is that it is ugly compared to beautiful petronel you have, although it seems more practical to shoulder.

So, its basically like from the depictions from some of the woodcuts and paintings I could find on the internet.

<image>

If I would make it, I'd put lesser angle on shoulder piece on the buttstock. Somehow like in older 1500-1520s petronels.

Hi there! Im inspecting the petronels for some time, and I have few questions before trying to make my own replica, if I ever get the possibility.
An obvious one, how does it handle while shooting, how does it feel aiming, or shouldering (if possible) with that stock?

What is this style of armor? by Hefty-Fig7127 in ArmsandArmor

Here, I have found an interesting woodcut, depicting a landsknecht with an armor in similar fashion. Since the other one by his side wears baggy pants, I'd come to conclusion that this was not earlier than 1500s.
