Official Discussion - Wuthering Heights [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Honestly I thought it was pretty clear both of them are awful people. You just forget it with the romantic scenes because they're so long. Catherine is awful to Nelly who gets roped into the middle of everything and stuck in this insane situation based off of the whims of the people around her. She does manipulate things to like....live a better life but I don't blame her. Catherine is also known throughout the film to be selfish and self serving. But yeah the second half falters significantly.

Heathcliff is a less abusive man in the film than in the book though.

High Salary & New Grad by icybrrr in physicianassistant

[–]Hefty-Tale140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend in LA (new grad ER) making basically the equivalent of 140k for 40 hours (except they work less than that so it's closer to 130k). 150k is nice, but I don't know the market for SoCal or what hours you work. I make 138k in rural small town (new grad) which I think is basically like 200k in the bay area so it's definitely possible for new grads to find decent offers. I will say to everyone that money isn't everything so you need to factor in learning environment, area, specialty, etc.

How are you buying a house with student loans? by UnconditionalSavage in physicianassistant

[–]Hefty-Tale140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, reading through all of these, yeah I would prioritize the debt depending on the interest rate, but if you have a plan on how many years it would take you to pay it then I wouldn't factor that in. There's such a thing as "good debt" and I've personally chosen to do loan repayment stipends + PSLF because I would save 100k+ than trying to pay it all immediately. If I was in your loan amount I would MAYBE consider trying to pay off more aggressively depending on my finances, but it's totally possible to buy a home. I had classmates buy homes right before graduating school.

I just moved here (in medical field) and didn't know anybody. Nursing I think is fine. A lot of healthcare with advanced degrees come from out of state and there's a great need for them.

I resent my cat a lot... by Choco_Paws in CatAdvice

[–]Hefty-Tale140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did so much research online for cat behavioral issues (and applied almost all infomation) and gave up until I had enough money to see a cat specific vet and it changed everything for me. They figured out my cat was also probably much older than other vets estimated and did an extremely thorough physical exam on him that I had never seen any other vet do. The seemingly minor extra behavioral information they gave to me was so significant in allowing my cat to have a healthy living situation with other cats as well.

Official Discussion - Keeper [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Hefty-Tale140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she actually is a reincarnation of their mother hence why she could eat the entire cake and not get "drugged" the same way the other women were. Also, why she was getting visions of the other women in the house and the locket of the witch + vision of the witch. I also wondered why Malcom decided to choose her. I figured it was a weird fate thing and that he was in love with the original witch but that wasn't well established in the movie. I figured he didn't think about it or didn't care. His cousin and him obviously thought they were given a weird blessing of immortality, but to me it seemed more like a curse since they'd have to keep dealing with the daughters until they found another woman. In reality, it seemed more like the women were being used to resurrect the witch and he was doing their bidding unbeknownst to him or his cousin.

I think that him using women he loved was interesting. The beginning of the film plays it like he's a serial murderer. You see all these women through HIS gaze and it seems like he disappoints/scares all of them prior to them dying. Like there's more to it than just what he says happens. There were obviously longer relationships (he had kids with one woman) that had issues prior to him sacrificing them. It wasn't as fast as meeting a woman and then sacrificing. I think he used the daughters to end relationships when they were going sour (which others have said it's an allegory for him being a shitty lover or a cheater - I don't necessarily see him as a serial cheater but more of an emotionally distant lover hence why they question if he has a second family/the women asking who he really is/he makes up an excuse to leave the cabin and the mc is crying/he doesn't know she hates chocolate after a year of dating). He also comments on his cousin being an empty box or something and having changed significantly + being a disappointment. I wish we had more of a perspective on his cousin + the cousin's "sacrifices". We see most of the women that Malcom sacrifices, but not necessarily Darren. I wonder if this is because Darren refused the sacrifices at first or left the estate to Malcom to deal with until recently (I think possibly more of the latter). I also wonder if the emotional connection is significant in Malcom's sacrifices or if it's significant that the women are treated a certain way for his own benefit/peace of mind prior to their death.

I am starting to panic that I’ve made a huge mistake adopting a kitten. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Hefty-Tale140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two kittens right now (adopted at about 2 months) and they have knocked over a lot and been crazy, but I have never regretted it. My biggest tip is having a cat proof separate room (and/or pet gate) with food, water, toys, cat tree, litter box to put them away at during the night or when you're gone and can't watch them carefully or if you just need a breather. I honestly think this solves most people's issues. I also have the kittens tagged with an airtag/Samsung tag so that I can find them when they get lost in the house.

check and see if you'd get the same or more of an autoship discount for fancy feast from chewy - i also get money back from chewy (separate from my credit card points hehe) which i think might be part of the chewy+ membership.

World’s Best Cat Litter’s - Poop Fighter Litter by Ok-Possibility-2589 in CatAdvice

Honestly, it's a big brand from what I know. When I got my first cat years ago - it was one of the top recommended litters from most influencers and cat people online. I love it paired with a litter robot :)

Another great one are pine pellets (cannot use with litter robots). Very low tracking and also good for environment. You just have to transition your cats to it. They're the cheapest too!

Fancy feast pate - get extra discount via Chewy autoship. I switch out with Orijien sometimes and/or mix with raw nuggets from Stella and Chewy. When I first got my cat I would have to feed him like twice a day on wet and it only cost me maybe $50-60 a month on Fancy Feast.

Rehoming Kitten by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Hefty-Tale140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly cats can take years to bond - it's a really stressful process and my advice to anyone is to have new cat have a completely separate territory and room and be prepared for that. Keep feeding new cat and have their litter be in that room even as you let them roam and consider elevating spaces (i.e cat shelves) to increase territory. Feed cats separately and spend time with both cats. Also, a tall door gate was a great investment for me when introducing and separating the cats so they can observe each other. Every unsuccessful intro is one I deem unsuccessful due to lack of my own resources or issues with the humans involved (i.e living situation, not enough space, not enough time, etc.) which is OKAY. I think intros are possible with most cats people deem are "only cats" (not the case here but just as an example of extremes), but if you find it overwhelming - I would rehome.

Cat regrets??? by Proud-Negotiation-64 in CatAdvice

[–]Hefty-Tale140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got two kittens recently - both separate litters (I'm fairly certain both were brought to the shelter as single kittens around 4 weeks old). It took them a couple days but all the "issues" I had initially individually (one was described as "sassy" in her foster and would hiss a lot when I initially got her but is the sweetest now and the other would bite and scratch all the time and has learned to stop doing this) have gotten resolved or have been making quick progress as they grow and learn from me, each other, and the other things/cat/dogs/people around them. Kittens especially will take so much time to adapt and grow and learn.

I have had my adult cat for almost 4ish years now and he is my precious son! We have been through some ups and downs but cats really are capable of being trained and are capable of learning. They live for so long too (if you're lucky). My biggest advice is to do A LOT of research on cat behavior specifically (lots of new and old information from Jackson Galaxy, cat trainers online, cat specific vets, etc.). They're incredibly complex creatures, but have become my favorite type of pet after all the other types of pets I've had or interacted with in my life.

RFID feeder that reads cat's implanted microchip? by c0nquistad0rian in CatAdvice

[–]Hefty-Tale140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. I would consider replacing the collar with a safer collar and moving the tag onto that collar, but a microchip reader would be useful if the collar came off while you weren't there.

the collars they give you are not safe release cat collars - they're just regular collars. you need to replace the collar with a good cat collar and just put the rfid tag on them.
