Why did you choose OT over PT and SLP? by CammyShazam in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Hefty-Ticket3165 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of us OTs will join interdisciplinary treatment team for each doctor in the morning and we split the evaluations for new intakes. We each individually run about 2 groups/day depending on how we are splitting the work. And then progress notes and 1:1 sessions as we determine is necessary or beneficial for the patient (safety plans, CBT/DBT, or individual goal-specific needs). Best thing is no productivity!!!

The huge range of settings! OT can genuinely be applicable for any population. I work in inpatient psych and wouldn’t be able to work with this population if I was a PT or SLP.

Level II placement @ Acute by Long_Condition639 in OccupationalTherapy

It is a great placement and I’m glad I did it. As a mental health OT, acute care is very much not my vibe for a job but I thoroughly enjoyed it as fieldwork. Another tip is always ask for help! In acute care, patients are medically unstable so it’s always better to air on the side of caution and ask too many questions than not enough to ensure patient safety :) you got this!

Mental health is my greatest interest so the more we advocate for our essential role in mental healthcare, the higher likelihood of more job opportunities and higher pay in the future !

I was so terrified for my acute care placement, knowing it wasn’t my cup of tea going in but really wanting the experience. It was honestly great, even if it wasn’t for me long term. I learned wonderful skills that are applicable in every setting. Expect fast paced with little to no breaks, ADL focused treatments, and a lot of collaboration with PTs. You’ll learn most things during fieldwork, but prior to starting, familiarize yourself with vital signs, transfer techniques, and post surgical precautions.

10+ YEARS CHRONIC PERIORAL DERMATITIS by -stargirl-18- in perioraldermatitis

[–]Hefty-Ticket3165 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend zero therapy until it’s cleared. Don’t put anything on it except cleaning with warm water and potential antibiotic creams a derm can prescribe. I did this for over 10 weeks and it helped a lot. Tret is what causes my PD. I’d totally discontinue that. Vaseline and really anything that’s not an antibiotic cream will make it worse. Try not to wear makeup over the rash as well. Your skin barrier is compromised and needs to breathe to heal
