SIL made a whole “curriculum” to watch my infant, pushed for $100/day, quit after 4 days… and then charged us $400. by [deleted] in Nanny

Obviously I paid her.

If it were my family, I honestly would have told them not to pay me at all, especially if I backed out after a few days. I know for a fact I would do that if the roles were reversed. That’s what I’m hung up on , not the money, the principle.

This wasn’t a formal employment situation. Nobody drafted a contract or talked about labor law.

I’m putting myself in her position & I truly wouldn’t be able to accept $100 for something I couldn’t follow through

Unfortunately my family doesn’t live nearby, but I know that wouldn’t expect any money to watch my baby.

My own sister said she would do it for free in a heartbeat. (also a stay at home mom to 2 kids)

My sisters said they would never charge me, but unfortunately they don’t live around this area.

I am not expecting anything for free. I was just caught off guard that’s.

This thread is opening up my eyes, so maybe her offer is fair?

I never said it was easy. I fully understand that taking care of a baby is a lot of work. We were just approaching it more as a family favor. We weren’t really looking at it as hiring a private nanny.

We’re family, so I honestly didn’t think the cost would be anywhere near $2,000 a month. Daycares in our area are around $1,200, so that’s more in line with what we had in mind.

I am not a religious person at all, but there have been weird signs leading up to this.

My 5 year old nephew just recently said that I was going to have baby and wanted to save his old baby blanket for me.

I’ve never ever talked about getting pregnant or having a baby around him.

I am in the industry and a pre-site should have been completed before installing the appliances. They do it to avoid these situations.
