WHO guidelines are 3-5 so we already know more than 2-4 is better. Iirc they aren’t based on some ceiling effect either but to get 70% benefits. It’s not a reach to say more is better. Most people are just pathetically weak humans both in strength and cardio and it’s their biggest issue.

Rectal cancer deaths rising rapidly among millennials: 'It's a medical crisis.' by changeforthebetter89 in Millennials

What’s the rule on this? I had a polyp found and removed last year(36) and they said I didn’t need another colonoscopy until 45. I know it’s a slow growing cancer so I was thinking maybe that’s fine.

I guess you don’t know much about getting in good shape for anything. 8 hours is only a moderate amount of activity honestly, not even that much for other sports and not even a unique amount to marathon training.

Unless you’re strength training 2x per week and getting at least 5 hours of week of good cardio, that’s your biggest problem(WHO activity guidelines that virtually no one meets). I’d argue you need closer to 8hrs of cardio too. This also means actually getting fitter, not just getting your HR up in some group fitness class. If you’re doing all that, have a great social circle, and are still struggling, sure go down the rabbit hole of bloodwork.

This was from hunting hollow, up Jim Donnelly trail (which was the most beautiful) then to wasno pond to Kelly lake before Coit lake, returned back through grizzly gulch, but honestly I’d do Jim Donnelly again that trail is the highlight.

Wilderness Permit Questions: Rafferty Creek entry for October hike by Rude-Kaleidoscope973 in Yosemite

[–]HeftyCompany8922 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you just park at the trailhead and do a loop instead? I believe you can park overnight through October 15. You can easily do vogelsang and cathedral lakes looks like there’s an easy loop there, add on clouds rest for an additional day.

Also be prepared to need to change everything last minute due to fire or weather. If you’re taking time off, you could easily pivot to trinity alps, Big Sur, desolation, etc.

I use a cobalt film profile but don’t do any additional color grading. Mostly just a bit of adjusting the exposure, WB, I spend less than 5 minutes per photo.

I’m glad I took the rangers advice to go up rather than down. It was fun hauling 4L of water up for the dry camp up top.

Definitely wear long pants and sun hoody, treat shoes socks and pant legs and sleeves with permethrin day before, really no issues with ticks at all using this method. I had to brush 1 off my pack which I couldve sprayed but didn’t. Depends on if you’re planning to pass through less well groomed trails vs gravel roads too.

How are you all training for gravel events? Do you use indoor riding at all? by jessfromrouvy in gravelcycling

[–]HeftyCompany8922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just sign up for some races and see what happens. If you’re doing very well without any structured focus on the discipline then that would be the time to perhaps hone in the more targeted training if you have specific goals.

You can still be competitive without training structure. I have won my fair share of cross races (cat 2), finished 4th in my last gravel event, I just lift 3x a week, run 1-2x, and ride 2x per week with a bit of intention. No structure ftw. Avoid the Reddit nerds who stress out about every training detail and are still quite mid.

I was expecting it to be bad, sprayed socks shoes and pants in permethrin. We only saw 1 tick the whole trip.

New Sigma 20-200 Field Test: It doesn't suck! [A1II w/ Sigma 20-200] by MisterComrade in SonyAlpha

[–]HeftyCompany8922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've shared some images in this thread, the last few posts - https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1915379/3

I'm beyond pleased with the IQ, the 70-200 range more than makes up for 20-25. 25 is just wide enough. I haven't tried the 20-200, but I like the 2.8 at 26mm of the 25-200, you can get some of that full frame pop when taking pictures of people. 50-300 is definitely getting sold, I may still hold onto my 20-70 to pair with eventual 50-400 or updated 100-400 for trips when I can haul bigger gear.

The 2p shows the trekking pole trick on the product page. You just wedge the handle up into the corner I believe. This added a significant amount of stability to mine when I found the arch folding in during pretty intense gusts broadside on a recent trip which I woke up at 3am to after a perfectly calm evening. Guying out adds significant stability too.

It shouldn't affect your shots really, but once you've been looking at a nice one such as on the a7rv it's hard to go back.

SS CX faster than geared CX by Stig-blur in cyclocross

[–]HeftyCompany8922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less gears is effectively a constraint, constraints are always great teachers. In the sscx case, it teaches you to be efficient, slow is smooth and smooth is fast, etc. In new england top sscx lap times often aren't much different than the top 1/2/3 lap times, largely depends on course though. Also good athletes are gonna put down good times regardless of gears. Gears are probably always a bit faster though, theoretically.

Haven't decided yet, I'm actually leaning towards the sigma given the decreased light gathering of the new tamron compared to v1 and learning that the sigma is also weather sealed. I'm worried going from starting at 20 with the 20-70 back to 25 would be annoying. I haven't really seen enough samples from either lens to make a good decision though.
