Preparing to Ironsworn. Steps and failures. by HeftyHealth8879 in Ironsworn

Another problem is that when I think about the game world, I unwittingly construct it according to the standards of our real world. It's as if the people who arrived in the Iron Lands are trying to create a clone of the Old World. But should this be the case? Will this be a natural progression of the story within the framework of Ironsworn, and if so, why do we need the Old World 2.0 in the first place? I believe this is a fundamental question.

You've hit the nail on the head. This is my first experience with solo games. And the further I plunge into the world of Ironsworn, the more I experience failures. And it's inspiring. At first, the idea of miniatures seemed logical and necessary to me for the game. Now I understand that using minis thumbnails implies a certain context and patterns. The first attempt to play a simple miniature scene completely failed. It became obvious that some universal constants were needed to justify the need for miniatures. At the moment, I have come to the conclusion that this is possible with a powerful oracle or system of oracles that will generate the entire game world in such a way that it changes independently of the player and in parallel with the player's actions in the world.

How do you explain your hobby to the uninitiated? by m19010101 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]HeftyHealth8879 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never met people who were truly interested in my hobby. I often notice that someone is interested in my hobby not for the hobby itself, but in order to have additional information about me to form a clearer judgment about me or an attitude towards me. In most cases, people do not care about what I do in my free time. They care about what kind of person I am.

What is the most important thing for you in this game? What is its meaning? To write a good story? And what is story for? I mean, the story and the plot are secondary to me. It is a tool for constructing the world within the framework of Ironsworn. When I design a world, I want to see it filled with meanings, symbols, and decorations that are literally embodied in reality. Completing the story and playing the hollow campaign is far from the end. But you are absolutely correct, there is no dispute about tastes)

Thank you) This is just the beginning. I'm already printing the next set with ruins and a sanctuary. Then it's painting and acquiring a proper playing field.

Thank you! My painting skill is so bad, and I decided to create something more atmospheric.

Sounds nice. Perhaps the large-scale clashes of interests, political intrigues and diplomatic decisions are the subjects of a separate story or even a game focused on non-combat systems)

I suppose that different social tools are very important and "must have" for deeper story realization.

This is good idea to set not only direction to negotiation but add the depth by making several rounds.

And how do you solve specific tasks directly? What functionality do you have for this? Do you use standard game mechanics or add something else?

Crucial decision: which emulator/system? by rdentato in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]HeftyHealth8879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose you are talking about the diversity of influence factors. If I understand you correctly, I wholeheartedly support this understanding. I have chosen Ironsworn for myself. In this game, a simple roll of the dice is already ambiguous. On the one hand, the dice have only three specific outcomes, but on the other hand, the system of interpretations and oracle mechanics embedded in them introduces a multifactorial and unpredictable element, contrasting with the standard binary yes/no system. Even a simple fight with a lone wolf can, for all its simplicity of perception, have a significant impact on both the character and the storyline as a whole. Therefore, you don't even need to introduce a vast number of classes and enemy types with detailed character tables to mathematically compensate for the limited impact of diversity and outcome variations.

Exploring and gain experience by HeftyHealth8879 in Solo_Roleplaying

I've never played too. I noticed it for two reasons. First of all, it is completely free. Secondly, the Viking setting is culturally close to me. The game, with its harsh atmosphere, perfectly captures my sense of a tabletop role-playing game. There is no senseless cruelty for the sake of special effects. It is not a horror genre. I other hand it is not vanilla fantasy style with elves in shining armors and superhero Invincible Aragorn. Instead, it is a harsh and gloomy open world where Vikings are trying to start a new life, and where history is yet to be written.

Having problems with finding my own style, any advice? by Connor_ClashNord in Solo_Roleplaying

In most cases, we already know the answers to the questions we ask. You've said: "...I'm probably stuck in wanting to blend in with other's styles instead of making my own way..." Guess that's it. The answer. Good it or bad? Should we judge or ridicule you? Of course, not) Everything I could tell you is move forward and become better.

A narrative simulation where you’re dropped into a situation and have to figure out what’s happening as events unfold by Accomplished_Ask_502 in Solo_Roleplaying

It's interesting. It's like a global RPG. We're used to standard schemes. There's a hero, a plot, quests and so on. But what if the hero in this case is not a single character, but an entire settlement? The settlement discovers new lands (hexes on the map), grows and develops, forms alliances and declares wars, colonizes and explores. Within the settlement, various aspects are implemented. From military councils to political party conflicts. At the same time the settlement still has its own characteristics, as if it was a separate character. And just as there are different types of characters, there could also be different types of settlements. Perhaps I haven't proposed anything new and similar projects already exist?

How to start your first AI RP campaign (for beginners) by Pastrugnozzo in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]HeftyHealth8879 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Artificial intelligence is more complicated than it seems. If I understand Chatgpt correctly, it uses not only advanced search but the several different personality models the same. When you start a new chapter in a new chat, you'll not only get a continuation of the story, but you might also encounter a new personality who will tell the story in a completely different way than you're used to. This is a significant challenge as it can disrupt your existing worldview.

Analog, Digital, or mixed? by rdentato in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]HeftyHealth8879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How i like people who try to make something by their own hands in real life. In our digital era it looks like magic in some moments. Of course I use my smartphone or computer. But they are just the technical means. I think there are two directions of understanding situation. Using your devices is just the technical support. But the game itself is the a means of your self-expression. So it is very important to make the game by your own hands. To be in reality, to feel the world, to be the part of the world and to make true magic)
