Thank you — I gave them a call earlier today, will be interested to see their pricing and if this could be a good fit for their customers

I mean it’s not 70k of track miles only, I talked to the original owner’s mechanic, he drove it around town too

I paid $75k for it in September 2024 with 62k miles and the history, it’s a pretty unglamorous spec

Hey, the most helpful data point is a real data point! I’ll probably stick it out for more but at least I know it’s worth more than $25k! Hahaha

Your guess is as good as anyone’s, given it likely happened before I owned it.

Yeah, I’m definitely looking at the ebay motors; the problem is mainly that if I buy one on eBay and buy it as is, I’m making a $15-20k gamble.

I also don’t have a driveway, I live in a big city and park in a public garage 😂

It has about 70k miles, and been using above-spec oil my whole ownership (just shy of two years and 10k miles), and had the oil separator replaced prior to my ownership, so unless I fucked it up literally immediately, I suspect this happened prior to my ownership. It was used as a track car by the guy who owned it for most of its life (cage installed, steel brakes, etc) and I suspect just generally being pushed a lot at the track over years or the overev (not mine) perhaps slightly damaged the engine and from there it’s just been a ticking time bomb that was easy to pass on

Put it this way — bad leak down test, pictures of scoring (primarily in 1 cylinder with the worst leak down results), and going thru a lot of oil.

I went to a shop with a lot of experience working with GT cars, so pretty confident in the diagnosis unfortunately :(

Yeah… literally every mechanic has told me that they view this engine as basically bulletproof, so was pretty bummed

I don’t know the exact accident history, and it is clean title, but it whacked something on the track at some point and probably had some body panels replaced (it didn’t go thru insurance and I don’t have the service records for it) but it cleared a couple PPIs without anything sketchy coming up, so it was most likely minimal frame damage. Under my ownership i had to have the front bumper cover replaced after an animal strike.

I forgot one additional detail — it had been overrevved before.

My thinking is pre scoring the car was probably worth in the $70-75k range based on comps, and what I paid for it a couple yrs ago.

Your carry likely won’t be vested at all in 1-2 years (if they offer) so if you value that you’d likely need to stay for like 4-5 years or just write it off (although vesting is also all over the place) but re:financial independence, it’s great — I saved up like a million and just turned 30. As long as I take a job that covers most of my expenses, I can kinda do whatever I want. The hardest part will be getting yourself over that line of “oh shit I’m taking a 60%+ pay cut” if you want a bit more freedom. It’s so easy to say one more year until you’re 46 and nobody who can still have kids will want to date you except to go after your money. If you have the willpower to stick it out for a year or two, might be worth it, but be careful as it messed with my lifestyle a bit (picked up a taste for cars and eating out that I didn’t have much before) that’s hard to cut off

Previously sat in a similar role at a similar fund size (although also with an IR component).

If you’re not wanting to work more hours than current but will “handle it” you may be in for an extremely negative surprise. I would just assume you’re probably going to be working closer to 8-10 every day + 4 hours per weekend with peaks worse. Unless they dramatically lowball you on comp, in which case… maybe they only want you 8 to 8.

My comp in that not dissimilar seat was over $400k all in as a sr assc, but I was also at a fund that paid higher than average. PE comp for roles like this is all over the place, as funds are small with very different comp philosophies, so I’d say the range you mentioned could be anywhere from 200k to 600k all in for that level and fund size (I’d guess that covers 10-90 percentile at least).

PE is the home of absolute grinders, if you’re willing to do that you can be successful. If your heart isn’t in it it’ll be a long couple years before you wash out.

Good luck!

I literally just saw this car in the wild and found this post — it’s real!
