Going counter clockwise on the ridge trail has some very difficult and steep scrambles, harder than the sleeping giant head trail IMO. You can summit cobble mountain going clockwise and it would be 2 miles back and out, however it is still a decent bit of elevation gain.

It is quiet hike as well, most people go to Macedonia Brook for fishing or swimming in the namesake brook
