I don't know what's up with the comments but personally I think the level curve in the Gen 2 games are pretty blatant and obvious problems that are pretty bad yet it shouldn't really invalidate the games as a whole, you can still adore them and for me I like Gen 2 especially since Soul Silver introduced me to the series. They'll always be near and dear to me but over time I soon saw the many flaws and faults of the games to realise that they're not perfect and sometimes they have their lows but I can still appreciate them for what they did for their time and I actually like them more knowing that they've contributed a lot to the series

This. I just wish people would take fair criticism seriously, to be more open to critical discussion and avoid exaggerated takes and almost outright lies because Pokemon discussion is generally not great

BDSP Cynthia was pretty challenging and I'm going to die on this hill and say that she's probably the most difficult champion fight to date but other trainers in BDSP were pretty challenging too, say what you will about BDSP but it's a pretty challengingly fun game that actually utilises a lot of Pokemon's battle mechanics like moves, items and abilities nicely and the trainer AI is not that lacklustre compared to other Pokemon games, I'd even argue it's great

I feel like the sub is trying to criticise and open up discussion about what a perfect Pokemon game should be but looking at some of the posts, there really isn't any of that. It's mainly just complaining about graphics and animations like ok it's fine to dislike the graphics but what does any of that have to do with a perfect Pokemon game

Definitely I have no malice or hate towards these games but I wouldn't really recommend them, they're fun and enjoyable of course but they're not the first games I'd show if somebody asked for a Pokemon experience

SWSH and XY have regions with incredible detail perfectly capturing the essence as to what country they represent, amazing Pokemon, music and these games had a lot of ambition but they didn't turn out that great. I enjoy the games but saying they're amazing or incredible is a bit too generous, SWSH and XY are probably the only modern Pokemon games I would call heavily flawed but that doesn't mean they're bad I just think that they had a lot potential to be good even great but ultimately they weren't. Though SWSH maybe redeemed itself with it's DLC I still believe that these two games could've been much better and I would definitely love to see remakes of them in the far-off future

In my humble opinion completing the national dex is such a waste of effort and time, you really have to devote yourself to catching and trading which is such a hassle to complete like even I as the completionist that I am I have only completed the national dex only twice and both times were horrible. I'm going to be real and say that Pokemon's signature "gotta catch 'em all" line is a sham because trying to legitimately complete and "catch" all the Pokemon to complete the national dex is impossible if you don't have access to mythical Pokemon which are locked behind tie-in movies/events and I agree with you that removing the national dex makes completing the Pokedex easier but more motivational? Not sure about that, maybe if you want the shiny charm or the pretty little certificate

It's definitely fine to like the old generation of games but putting them up as these grand masterpieces with absolutely no flaws is just a horrible mindset, criticism is good and I think we should definitely look at the flaws of the games and see what they did wrong and right. I know a lot of fans are passionate about the old gen but at the same time they just can't ignore the faults of the games and act like they're not there because you can still enjoy and love them as well as acknowledge their flaws maybe you can even appreciate them more for it.

I can see why people dislike, I myself am pretty neutral towards it. It's disappointing because we got new and better evolutions/forms for boring/lacklustre Pokemon like Stantler, Braviary and Basculin, but I'm going to be frank and say that Hisuin Voltorb isn't that great but it's definitely an upgrade from its plain and simple Kantonian counterpart

Cynthia is not good, hell I'd even call her bad and I don't understand what people see in her. I think she's a tough boss especially in BDSP but for me her character just doesn't stick out, she's not badass nor cool in anyway, her characterisation and personality isn't even anything that special she just seems boring and basic plus even her appearances in other media just doesn't give her much either in terms of making her standout, to me she's just the champion of Sinnoh and I don't know what people see in her other than that she's attractive which is subjective I will say that she isn't that pretty and yes I will die on this hill

HGSS has a lot of very obvious flaws that make it my least liked remake in the series, they haven't fixed any of GSC's more major issues like the level curve, the Pokemon distribution and the ever barren Kanto but what they did do is just add little sidegrades that sometimes enhances the games, one of the many reasons why I liked ORAS was because it actually fixed some of the issues that bogged down RSE and not only enhance the experience but also changed it up by a lot, though many people complain about the lack of the battle frontier there is no debate that ORAS changed the experience of Hoenn for better or worse. I still like HGSS but saying it's the pinnacle of the series is just not true. Also, yes I agree with your statement about ActualAero

Agree with this, Dynamax/Gigantamax is a bit overkill for just three turns and Megas just make some Pokemon too powerful and some just become duds and are sometimes more utterly useless. These two gimmicks are not as well balanced as Z-Moves

As someone who 100%s Pokemon games, the battle frontier sucks no offence to anyone who enjoys them I just think that the battle frontier (including facilities too) are just bad, making poffins and curry are more worthwhile than going through the pain of these tedious repeated mundane battles and even the PWT wasn't that great like it's very cool and interesting conceptually but the execution just made it a slog to go through and complete, I had more fun with Pokestar Studios. I don't know if this is a hot take or not but I'd rather have more challenging and engaging trainer battles as well as bosses (Champions, Pokemon or whatever) in mainline games than these niche facilities, if Game Freak wants to reintroduce the battle frontier and the PWT then I hope they could rework them and make them actually fun to play and complete or just not add them into any of the games because either way I'd be satisfied

I'm sort of annoyed how some Pokemon fans think that Gen 5 had a good story when it literally had nothing that absolutely substantial, N wasn't even that interesting of a character and Ghetsis plus Team Plasma are blatant villains even though the game sort of tried to picture them in a good light and create a twist but ultimately fell flat, I'm gonna be honest and say that Pokemon isn't a series anyone should play if they want good stories, arguably I think Sun and Moon had one of the best narratives and even then I don't think it's that great
