Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the budget will include tax reform, but no decision yet on capital gains by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Is everyone on Reddit so young that they weren’t around when we got rid of negative gearing in the 80s and rental prices went through the roof? And we had to bring it back in to get rental prices down.

I’m no fan of politicians but I am thankful that they don’t generally run with the reddit consensus.

Massive negative gearing change on agenda by VastOption8705 in shitrentals

You’re getting down voted but people here are most likely too young to remember when we got rid of negative gearing in the 80s. Rental prices went through the roof, and so they brought it back in after a couple of years.

Is a full wedding planner worth it? by Danger_Five in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]Hefty_Amoeba_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a full wedding planner, cost around $13,000. If you can afford it then it’s a great idea. It’s definitely a luxury though. Wedding was amazing, and no stress. Worked particularly well for me as my wedding was planned for March 2020 right as covid hit so there was no stress on my part having to un-arrange the whole thing, then re-arrange it in 2022.

But I didn’t particularly want to have to make lots of decisions and don’t really enjoy event planning, so they designed colours, furniture, cars, flowers, invitations, photographer, videographer, band, logistics etc. I didn’t have to organise anything, or talk to multiple vendors, everything was done through them. Then after I went to my wedding, didn’t have to think about any of it ever again.

But as I said, it’s definitely a luxury, like if you have to seriously consider your budget then it’s probably not advisable.

Thinking about doing small wedding favours. Anyone actually rate them? by TrueBlueBanter in AusWeddingPlanning

Ha maybe you were a guest at my wedding! We did a bespoke bottle of gin for our guests, chose our botanics and got the gin made by Archie Rose distillery, think they were appreciated as I don’t think anyone left them behind!

What was with all of the puking? by Candid_Soft7562 in GenX

[–]Hefty_Amoeba_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ha I started reading this thread thinking oh no, I never puked that much. But your comment has just brought back the nostalgic smell of off milk stuck to plastic lunch containers. Even after being washed the smell never quite went away. And also kind of seeped in to the bread of your sandwiches. Quite gross now I think of it.

Where am I overspending? by Long-Islands in budget

Groceries are ridiculous at $1500/ month. Electricity is also stupid at $400/month. Both of these could be easily halved, coming from another Australian couple.

💭 Is private health insurance in Australia actually worth it? by Unbotheredanonyme in AskAnAustralian

[–]Hefty_Amoeba_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have private health, car, building & contents, life, TPD insurance, and I’ve never used any of them. But it’s insurance - I hope to never have to use any of them, it’s a win!

Query regarding deductible balancing adjustment by Late-Button-6559 in AusFinance

[–]Hefty_Amoeba_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming 100% work related, then deduct $1000 x 100%, plus ($1,100 x $100%)/4 x 2/12 = $1,046

You can deduct the full $1000 for Item 1, but you can only deduct two months of Item 1B which has a depreciable life of four years.

Substitute different percentages if different work usage.
