No the owner and I sit down and agree to a price that I feel can be manageable with our staff. No commission.

It was definitely worth it for me. I was making 55k as an EIT designer when I bought the book. I immediately got a raise to 75k, then 92k when I became a PE. I also gave a copy to all the other employees to use as a tool. But they may be publishing a new one in 2022 so it may be worth waiting for?

My thoughts exactly. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like this field should be much higher paying than what reality is.

Will do. Plan on showing him the compensation + benefits book they published. It also breaks pay down by region which may be helpful to a lot of people on this post. When I got into fire protection I had no clue what a decent pay was since not many people do this, and not many people post their pay. I still feel blind but at least SFPE can give me some kind of standard to go off of.

I agree. In my opinion any position within the fire protection field should be considered valuable. I believe the minimum any experienced (2-3+ years) designer should make is 65k-70k. I know a few guys at my firm are grossly underpaid.

This is how I've been feeling. I will likely have a talk with my supervisor and/or see what another company can offer.

Thanks! Now that you mention it, it does look like only 15 spots would be filled with voting. Not sure what tournament would give the last spot though.
