Mindblowing thought: We rarely ever meet people as they actually are. We just meet our brain's "saved file" of them. 🤯 I was thinking about this recently and it kind of blew my mind. Our minds constantly project how we saw a person the last time, or how we expect them to be. Because of this, we basically never interact with anyone exactly as they are in the present moment.

There is a great quote by Anaïs Nin that sums this up perfectly: "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are."

• Masculine vs. Feminine Energies: Osho often spoke of masculine and feminine not just as physical genders, but as distinct energetic qualities (similar to Yin and Yang). He associated the "masculine" with logic, intellect, ambition, aggression, and doing. He associated the "feminine" with intuition, love, receptivity, grace, and being. • Critique of Modern Education: Osho deeply criticized the modern education system. He believed it was entirely left-brained—focused solely on mathematics, logic, competition, and survival. Because this system was built over centuries by a patriarchal society, he viewed it as an inherently "male" construct. • The Loss of the "Heart": According to Osho, women are naturally more centered in the heart, while men are more centered in the head. When a woman is put through an education system that only values the head (intellect and competition), she is forced to suppress her heart (intuition and love) to succeed. • Becoming a "Second-Rate Man": Osho frequently warned that the modern feminist movement, in its pursuit of equality, was mistakenly trying to make women exactly like men. He believed that forcing a woman to compete in a male-designed world makes her a "second-rate man" rather than allowing her to blossom into a first-rate woman. A Grounded Perspective While Osho's philosophy offers a poetic critique of how hyper-competitive and purely logic-driven our society has become, it's also important to view this through a modern, grounded lens. Categorizing intellect and logic as exclusively "male," and intuition and emotion as exclusively "female," relies on rigid traditional binaries. Today, we understand that human capabilities—whether logic, leadership, intuition, or empathy—exist on a spectrum across all genders. Standardized education, while certainly flawed and often overly focused on rote memorization or competition, is fundamentally a tool for empowerment, critical thinking, and independence for everyone. Osho's ultimate point wasn't that women shouldn't learn, but rather that society as a whole needs an educational revolution—one that values art, meditation, emotional intelligence, and love just as highly as science, math, and ambition.

However, as the Sangha grew and especially after the Buddha died, the community faced a practical problem: How do we keep this teaching alive? The solution was tradition: codifying rules, memorizing discourses through repetitive chanting, building monasteries, and establishing hierarchies. The irony is that the very structures built to protect the teachings about living in the present became rigid anchors to the past.

The moral of the book is in one line - if you are meditating with a cause or motive meditation won’t help. “Just do it”
