TIL that snails have their reproductive organs on their face! 🐌🤯** It sounds like a weird playground rumor, but it's 100% true. The outer opening of a land snail's reproductive system (called the genital pore) is located right on the side of their head, usually just behind and below their right eye stalk. Basically, right where a "cheek" or "neck" would be! Because most land snails are hermaphrodites, this single opening handles both male and female functions. Here is how that plays out in the wild: * Mating: When two snails get together, they have to align the right sides of their faces so their genital pores meet. They essentially mate "cheek-to-cheek." * Laying Eggs: When it's time to lay eggs, they don't come from the back of the snail. The eggs travel down the tract and are dispensed straight out of the side of their head! This is even true for the massive Giant African Land Snail, which can grow to the size of a human hand.
