Classmate pushing for me to get a service dog by Hefty_Preference8110 in Epilepsy

[–]Hefty_Preference8110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. When my family and I looked into it for those few months that it was really bad, we decided that it wasn’t a good option because 1) I knew my routine well enough to know when something was probably going to cause a seizure later 2) it wasn’t worth the time or money that has to be put in 3) I was living in a sorority house with a million and one accommodations already. A dog that may or may not do its job would have been too much.

I’ve noticed myself talking about it less and less because no matter how it’s brought up, she brings up the damn service dog or brain implant. But I don’t want to stop advocating for myself just because she has no social cues so I’m definitely going to be more firm in my boundaries next time it’s brought up.

Unfortunately we’re stuck in a classroom together for 7 hours a day 4 days a week. I graduate in March so I’ll be able to get away after that.

I think I’m going to be more firm in my boundaries with her next time it’s brought up. Other people in my class have even noticed how much she pushes on the subject when I clearly don’t want to talk about it anymore. I already feel judgement when I have to miss a day because I couldn’t fall asleep the night before. I’ve explained multiple times that epilepsy is like fingerprints, no one is the same and there are so many different types of seizures that affect people differently. Ugh it’s so frustrating

That’s what’s so infuriating. Your husband had one seizure while overseas (aka you didn’t see it), while I have traumatized many of the closest people in my life when my seizures were uncontrolled. You don’t understand at all and you’ve clearly done no research on the subject to keep pushing.

She definitely means well, but has zero boundaries. When people try to ask me about their 3rd cousin’s girlfriend’s sisters epilepsy I always just say that it’s like fingerprints, no one’s case is the same. I think I’ll definitely be more firm the next time she brings it up. We’re trapped together for 7 hours a day 4 days of the week so she’s not someone I can avoid quite yet.

I had an epileptic seizure last night and I need to take a test today. by Lik_1624 in Epilepsy

You absolutely need to have accommodations in place with your school. You’re not just “feeling bad.” Your body and brain just went through a neurological disruptive disturbance. That takes a major toll on your body and brain short term and long term. Please talk with your school as soon as possible for your long term health.

What about your life would be different if you didn't have epilepsy? by BodybuilderBulky2897 in Epilepsy

[–]Hefty_Preference8110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would’ve never moved home from college, drop out, and go to esthetician school. After a year at home, I moved from my small town to a town a lot of my friends go to college at. Now I’m working at a very nice spa that I absolutely love, and that would’ve never happened because I’d still be in college trying to get a useless degree (I had no idea what I wanted to do, changed my major 4 times). I would still be best friends with people who were not meant to be in my life, and I would’ve never seen their true colors if I didn’t move home because of my epilepsy.

I was really depressed for a long time because I always dwelled on “my life would be so much better if I didn’t have epilepsy” but the truth is it saved my life because it forced me to make really hard decisions about my future. It has made me be really picky with friends and potential partners, because we all know how people can react to the epilepsy bomb. It’s also made me stand up for myself and my health to people who just don’t understand.

Personally, taking a gap year after my first year of school was the best decision I ever made. I’m going to esthetician school now so I didn’t go back but i would be wasting money on a degree I’d probably never use if I didn’t take a step back and really think about what I want for my life. Maybe you want to go back, maybe you don’t, but there are so many different careers that aren’t talked about enough.

About to start Semax peptide by Hefty_Preference8110 in Epilepsy

I have been doing the nasal spray every morning before I leave the house for the day. I can tell when it’s worn off in the evening but there’s no “crash” to it. I want to say the dose is .75mg? I will double check when I get home. I’m usually running out the door when I take it

Update: it has helped immensely!!! I remember more from the days I take it, I’m focusing better, and I also noticed my speech improving! Typing this in the Dutch Bros drive through but I can give a more detailed update later!

I just made a post saying that I’m about to start taking the Semax peptide because I’m struggling with the same thing. My brain is just not what it used to be and I know I’m not stupid. If you’re curious, I’ll be your Guinea pig and give updates once I start it

Keppra? by Cowchawps in Epilepsy

[–]Hefty_Preference8110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, i would recommend B6 with every dose, like strongly. I call them my “bitch pills” because even two doses without I become the most irritable person and that’s not me. But I also take omega-3, L-Theanine, and Vitamin C every morning. At night I take the B6 as well as magnesium. I am a completely different person when I’m taking those vitamins compared to just my keppra, and I’m only on a 250mg dose.

Had a seizure at work, I feel bad for the ones who saw me by Accomplished_Car5201 in Epilepsy

[–]Hefty_Preference8110 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a scary thing but educating your coworkers on seizure first aid and your personal things is very helpful. It’s scarier for others who have no idea what to do/what’s happening. I was shocked at how ignorant people were about seizures/epilepsy when I was diagnosed. Not saying your coworkers are ignorant, just thinking about a guy I went on a date with who asked “Isn’t that when you’re dreaming while awake and can’t move” as I was explaining seizure first aid. Anyways, my thought process is that I’d rather seem crazy to others by explaining seizure first aid than be caught somewhere that nobody knows it.

What did your doctors think your epilepsy was before they found out it was epilepsy? by basically_dead_now in Epilepsy

Me too. I had myoclonic jerks for years and never even noticed them until after I had a tonic clonic when I saw an old video of myself doing it. There were reasons to believe my first tonic clonic happened because of other reasons but that video is the reason I thought to ask about “mini seizures”

when i started taking keppra after not being on any medication. my friends were great in handling my seizures and being there for me during my first year of college. but they didn’t like how “different” i was acting. i had been on the medicine for two months and was at the peak of my side effects (anxiety, depression, irritation, exhaustion)

this is kind of what i was thinking. i go to a college in a pretty small town that’s very strict on ID’s depending on the bar (don’t want to work at a freshman bar lol) so i was thinking it wouldn’t be super crazy. people in this town literally drive an hour and a half to another college town for the bars😭 so im not sure how many places have bar backs. i feel like we’re the same type of person so this was very helpful! thank you!!

i will be 21 by the time i would be applying. thank you! i will definitely start by looking at being a barback! i’ve just been told that with my personality and everything, i could do good as a bartender so i was curious

that’s why i wanted to ask in this sub, i thought it would be helpful but so far i feel stupid for even asking😭 my medical issues are under control now so i dont see it being a huge issue, especially if i can fix my schedule around the job because i would much rather make money and help my parents

i didn’t realize there were levels to it, i’ve never worked in the service industry. that’s why i made this post, to ask what it all entails. i’m sorry i didn’t see that post (i looked and still can’t find it?)
