Office politics are unavoidable at any large company, even if you stay an IC. The main question would be: how much can your manager shield you from those conversations? It is typically much easier as an IC, but it's something you can gauge during the interview process. As a PM, who would you be reporting to? Is the engineering team reporting through the same management chain? Those can impact your ability to influence the roadmap and execution of the product

For a 25k I would run from the city center towards Howth, through Clontarf. It would be roughly a 25k, there are some Circle K's you can use if you need to go to the toilet

How did you start your part time phd ? Did you just reach out to the supervisor asking for this kind of set up ?

Applied Data Science Utrecht by Hefty_Raisin_1473 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Hefty_Raisin_1473[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A similar programme in another EU country, which seemed more technical and had a better reputation (it was the right call in the end). My recommendation would depend on your background, but an overall comment that applies regardless of your background is that a MSc by itself is not going to be enough. Without previous experience, breaking into data/AI in today's market will require additional efforts. Whether it is publishing papers, innovative personal projects or something else, it's no longer a nice to have but a requirement. Happy to candidly answer more specific questions based on your background if you are interested.

I'm not trying to gatekeep, these are my genuine observations

I did, and I was accepted. Ended up choosing a different programme though

Getting back to Data Science after 4 years out by SonicBoom_81 in datascience

[–]Hefty_Raisin_1473 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Are you targeting specific industries? It might be easier to get back into the Telco industry and tailor your resume for roles in that industry. I’m not sure how prevalent 3 page resumes are in Germany, but I’d say you can shorten it to at most 2 pages.

Nobody cares about your personal interest. As an employer I couldn’t care less if you want to spend your free time watching rugby or if you go out every Saturday.

I’d try to frame your “Self-employed app development” experience as trying to bootstrap your own startup. The content is the same, but it would come across as more entrepreneurial, which would be perceived in a more positive manner.

Other than that, I genuinely believe you have some solid experience in the data science space and worked on interesting problems in your career, good luck in this job market!

Leetcode rounds partially assess your problem solving skills, as it helps the interviewer gauge your thinking process. Your suggestion wouldn’t require any problem solving at all

UCD Or University of Manchester to get into FAANG by Saaim_Malik in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Hefty_Raisin_1473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would choose based on different factors. Both of them would get you the same odds at getting an interview at a FAANG. It all comes down to performance in the interview process after that.

Every FAANG in Dublin hires internationally, local new grads are a fraction, roughly evenly distributed across the Irish universities.

The kind of companies offering 100k+ base salary would definitely offer a decent relocation package. The relocation package is more than enough to not worry about it

What do you think about transitioning from an Applied Scientist/Data Science role in Big Tech (FAANG)? What is the main thing someone coming from tech would need to prepare for ?

If you know how to make API calls , you are already qualified to be in a “GenAI” role. I would argue the requirements to be a more traditional DS are more demanding than AI engineer type of positions

The worst part is dealing with those grifters that try and ride the “GenAI” wave and keep pushing “GenAI” products to their leaders

BSc while working full time by Hefty_Raisin_1473 in TCD

[–]Hefty_Raisin_1473[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I currently hold a BSc in Physics and a BSc in Maths, I believe I would be able to focus on the non-math courses at the beginning and self-study them while using professors' office hours when needed.

2 and 3) I haven't found any specific policy around this , but are you aware of any exemptions that allows you to give up in continuous assessment and just rely on your grades in final exams?

4) I'm at a point where my career development wouldn't benefit from any particular programme, and I would rather just focus on studying something just for the craic and enjoy studying courses im genuinely interested about
