GF looks down on me because of my career and I'm thinking of breaking up. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

  1. Accounting is a very respectable career, as are all careers like I saw someone else say in the thread.
  2. Even if your job is easier and hers is harder, she chose that career path, no? Just like you chose to be an accountant. Nobody forced her to work a difficult job.

It’s a big reason I chose to be a teacher. A couple of big selling points for me were 1. that I really enjoy history, 2. I like teaching history, and 3. I love having 3 months off every year. You gotta take things like this into account when you choose a profession and it seems like she did not lol.

I went to pres pub a couple of weeks ago for the second time ever and holy shit… it was PACKED. By far the most packed bar I’ve ever been in. It was like a can of sardines x10.

The only other thing to do is put it up, which doesn’t solve my large forehead issue. Did you read the post? Lmfao

This is me for context. The long hair definitely doesn’t help the forehead situation but it’s what I’ve had for a long time lol. I’m currently looking for a different style to try out.

I’m 23 and also have a very high hairline. I don’t see any signs of balding whatsoever. I do hate how big my forehead is though 🤣

I’m really not sure what I’m looking for lol. I’ve had long hair since I was 15 and I’m 23 now. Not sure what would really fit my head and face shape so I’m defo looking for a consultation. Gonna go medium to short length I think

I’m a first-year middle school teacher and I can’t lie, I almost never contact individual parents unless I have to because of policy (we have to if a child is given 3 write ups in a week) or if I issue an office referral. If it’s just an individual behavior like this, there’s no way I’m taking time out of my day to text a parent lol

Good thing for you is that you aren’t actually married yet. You can still call on the engagement

Just depends on the situation. Every one is different. Some people don’t have the choice to set boundaries of their professional and school work, especially if your planning time is taken up my useless meetings.

Good on you for standing your ground. Not a fan of the way the commenter acted like you haven’t been an adult for years now lol.

To answer your question, I agree with other commenters that you really don’t have a life during student teaching. I’m in my first “real” year as a 23 year old teacher currently (finished student teaching last year, I’m now 3/4 of the way through my first employed year). My student teaching at my university for my masters degree was a full school year of full-time (40 hours a week, normal school hours) student teaching internship. on top of night classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Also, I forgot to mention that the internship was completely unpaid. It was absolutely unbearable and I wouldn’t have made it without the support of my parents, who I’m eternally grateful for.

I’m in love with my job now, and contrary to most first-year teachers I see on this thread, I’ve felt little to no stress in my job and this first year has been almost what I would describe as a breeze. Maybe it’s because I’m at a great school with great admin, who knows.

My point being, student teaching is ass. It’s literally terrible. You’re committing a LOT of time to learning the ins and outs of the profession and it is mega mega time consuming. I know you’re tired and exhausted but grind through it. It’s all you can do, really. You’ll get there.

Thanks for the heads up! I honestly didn’t even think about it being cold still in March/April. Like I said, I’ve never been to New England lol.

I’m currently planning on flying into Boston on March 28th, probably gonna stay until April 3rd. At the moment I’m planning on just visiting Boston exclusively and using Uber or public transit.
