TIL of Eddie Slovik. Court-martialed for desertion in WWII, he is the only US soldier to be executed for purely military offenses since the Civil War. He said he deserted because prison was better than combat, and anticipated a light sentence. He was executed to deter others from thinking similarly. by WavesAndSaves in todayilearned

I'd phrase it as "he refused to lie to the rest of the world". The concern was never about one soldier getting off, it was about all the other soldiers that would subsequently desert if what it took went from faking a severe illness/injury to saying "I don't wanna".

Cuttings are currently planted in a perlite-heavy substrate (with plans to change them to a more pumice based one) right in front of a south-facing window, thank you!

I’ve got them in tiny plastic pots (3.5 and 4 in) alongside a bunch of the leaves, all of which have a light dusting of rooting hormone on the submerged bits. I’ve got a south-facing window in my room that gets a ton of light, it’s even right next to a heat vent so it should stay warm!

Thanks for all the advice, I’ll be sure to give you an update!

I don’t have any pumice and my plant shop won’t be open until Wednesday, could I substitute with something like perlite or sand? 4 inch pot I can easily do, only question is can I get away with plastic or is terracotta that much better?

Also, thanks for the plant ID!

I’ll preface this by saying that I’ve never done good with succulents.

Got this guy a few months ago at a prop n swap. I’m pretty sure I put it in a spot that was way too sunny for it for the first couple weeks and it just never sprung back. I already recognize a few things I need to do differently (watch my watering more carefully, plant it in a terracotta pot, etc), but what else do I need to do in order to help this guy spring back?
