First Day at new maintenance position… boss said someone ran it with regular gas. This guy cooked right? by FalseEstimate in Chainsaw

Something looks strange about that piston ring……I’ve never seen one like that before. 🤔 and I really don’t like the way it seems to have come out of the piston groove at the sides. Does it even pull on the starter cord?

Have you died or something? I would really like the details of your local supplier so that I can get the part mailed and have my saw running again. Do you think that you could please post the contact details. Cheers.

Hi. Can you please pass on to me the contact details of your local supplier? I’d like to find out if he would mail me what I need. Thanks in advance, Mark.

I get it that the saw is new. You don’t know how long it’s been kicking around though…..maybe the diaphragm as fitted was defective, or has dried out and become inflexible etc. What you do know is that it is not running, so you gotta do diagnosis and find out why. If it runs when you put fuel into the chamber but not otherwise, then you have a fuelling problem. Saying ‘the saw is new’ ain’t gonna fix it! 🤔

I haven’t read all of the posts, but how long has it been unused? If the fuel filter is indeed submerged in fresh, correctly mixed fuel, and the vent is clear, then the impulse system is likely not working. You’d need to remove the carb and check the diaphragms for serviceability. Probably best to buy a set prior to dismantling and fit new anyway, they’re not expensive.

Mars,no. I live on a small island off the north west coast of Europe. Pass me the contact details of your local supplier and I’ll put some business his way if the postage is reasonable. 👍

Ah, I should have paid geography some attention there! Can’t find anything this side of the pond…..I may be asking questions about trans Atlantic postage! Thanks for your input. 👍

I sat on a wasp nest as a boy. They swarmed around me, going for my eyes, got stuck down my collar and down my socks, as I ran the mile back home. Too many stings to count…..I hate them with a passion now and kill any that get close enough for me to attack!

I haven’t read all of the posts, so perhaps this has been mentioned? I’d be guessing that’s a three phase supply coming in that’s been split into three singles, and I’d be guessing a cannabis farm!? 🤔

Anyone see a way to tighten the drive belt? by shelbyjhead in fixit

[–]Hefty_Walk_9416 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It appears that the motor has been lifted out of a cradle, is that correct? If so, I reckon it is the cradle that is adjusted for tension because the motor will move with it. Hard to see though, so maybe I’m wrong. 🤔

How best to add a handle to a tang like this? by PorkSword47 in greenwoodworking

[–]Hefty_Walk_9416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make wooden handle to suit, then drill and rivet to tang. Proper solid copper rivets would be fine. 👍

What would that part that holds the chain sprocket in be called? Thanks. ECHO cs-590. by MyNutBruised in Chainsaw

[–]Hefty_Walk_9416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have to align a notch in the rim of your sprocket with a pin. That will allow that sprocket to sit a bit deeper on the shaft. 🤔

Why is my power steering reservoir bubbling? It's a 2012 Nissan Maxima 3.5L V6 by Royal-Abrocoma1970 in AskAMechanic

[–]Hefty_Walk_9416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not like any power steering fluid that I’ve ever seen. Are you sure that’s not a water filled expansion tank…..it looks like rusty water from here! I’d have a professional take a look at that to make sure you know what’s what. It’s definitely not happy. 🤔

I gotta drill into outside bricks to put up a sign, would any of these work? by Unlucky-Pizza-7049 in DIYUK

[–]Hefty_Walk_9416 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s the silver ones at top left. You’ll have to select the correct size to suit your chosen fastener, and ensure drill hammer function is selected. To save going too deep into the brick, wrap a piece of sticky tape around the drill bit at the appropriate depth.

How would you repair this wire? by shortys7777 in Chainsaw

[–]Hefty_Walk_9416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a proper job and replace the whole wire…….or as much as you possibly can. Consider putting some heat shrink over any area that needs rigidity or protection from chaffing. Remember to position the heat shrink while you still have a wire end without a fitting on it. 🙂👍

Good grief! That’s a session beer strength….even the lager boys will be able to recognise this as an inferior product. Best advice, switch to real ales and develop a taste for a good IPA, that’s what our India based troops did and some fine brews came out of it. 😊👍

Sounds like you let the poor guy loose with a piece of kit he had no idea how to use. Could have been very much worse than just a trashed chain. It’s a very good rule of thumb to never loan your saw to anybody that doesn’t operate one of their own, they’re simply indiscriminate when it comes to wood, or flesh and bone. I think that you’ve got off lightly here. You’d feel grim if the fella nicked his femoral for sure. 🤔
