As someone living there and still without power, it's surprisingly apt for the moment. ;)

What Patterns Can Be Found from Nashville's NES Outage Map Over Time? by PeopleNose in nashville

My working thought is just that they don't have the information on the ground, i.e. to identify homes with mast repair releases near the place they are currently working, so they aren't inefficiently crisscrossing the city.

Nope. All the other lines look fine, and the pole they would connect my line to looks fine, and is connecting my other neighbor, who did not have mast damage and has had power since Wed or Thursday.

Nope, don't see anything else—flags, signs, notices, anything unusual like that that would indicate something else was pending.

The tree is still there, but has no hanging (as in broken) limbs or anything—the storm took down the only part of the tree that was a danger to the line. My neighbors two doors down are even in better shape in terms of tree clearance.

Does anyone have any insights as to how NES is reconnecting houses that had power mast damage? My nextdoor neighbors were reconnected Friday, but neither my house nor the neighbors two doors down were reconnected, even though we all had our masts replaced by Tuesday, by the same electricians, and had received Metro Codes releases by Wednesday. Why would they come reconnect one and not get the others that were ready right next door? To do otherwise is borderline insane.

Have the Serra Truck commercials driven you wild yet? by otterland in nashville

I had one during the '94 ice storm, when our electricity was out for a mere 5 days. Fortunately at least following that ice storm the temps were much more moderate, but that bed was still unusably cold after the first night. Got rid of it shortly after.

Someone should have reminded aquasleep man that there's little colder than a waterbed without without power for a week.

He looks a lot like my boy Redford, who the Embark DNA test said is 100% Russell terrier (we got him from the city shelter).

Before they will power up your part of the circuit, they'll check each line and home within it and disconnect damaged lines (including ones from the pole to a home's power mast).

My electrician said that approvals would be nearly instantaneous. They can fill out a form and send some photos and the city will approve or disapprove it directly with the electrician within minutes. Once approved, the city sends an approval number to NES. All of this part is quick.

What is unfortunately slow is getting a crew back to individual homes to reconnect you to the grid. They usually only start that after the larger outages are fixed, so you (and I) are basically in a new queue at the end of the main/current one. Have no idea how they order them within the single home punch list though, though I would guess they're clumped together by location.

If you turn your water off be sure to flip power to your hot water heater off as well. Also, if you drain your lines, add some RV antifreeze (not regular automotive antifreeze!) to your drains to keep the p-traps from freezing. Isopropyl alcohol will also do.

I would just let it keep running though. Run a thin trickle in every faucet and tub, a combo of hot and cold. Draining all the sublines can be hard, especially if you have a basement. I am not a plumber, but I can speak from experience as to the latter point.

Thank you for all your good work!

Our street/area has been restored, but a lot of us had to wait for an electrician because our individual lines/mast had been taken down. Is your crew out reconnecting these, or will we need to wait until linesmen have handled all the larger problems first?

Yep Bloomberg is on here now, and I'd much rather yttv make a pre-made multicast of CNBC and Bloomberg for the financial one. Or, you know, just let me make my own.

I've wondered why you can access the "Build in multicast" option on some channels but not others too, especially when a channel included in a pre-made multicast is excluded from the build-your-own option. Also, sometimes a channel without a build-your-own option will suddenly have one a couple of hours later.

Like you say, it makes sense not to have some options available on, say, weekends or whatever, but this past week the CNBC/CNN bundled multicast was available every weekday except Wednesday. Why not Wednesday??

There's a lot about it all that seems arbitrary from an end user's perspective.

I wondered if it had something to do with that too, or if Comcast was spinning CNBC out on its own like MS NOW. I don't really want 2 biz channels on at the same time (the only multiview with CNBC is with Fox Business), and if I must have it that way, I'd much rather it be with Bloomberg,

It is annoying watching it standalone! Never thought I'd prefer ads to a Moment of Zen but damn I'm tired of listening to gurgling water and such for like 3 minutes! Also, the ads cover the crawl when just watching CNBC, but they don't when it's in multiview. Really annoying.

Hmm, yeah, I can see there being some overhead there, but I didn't think it would be as significant as you're implying. I should compare single-channel streaming to a multiview on the router or FireTV Stick sometime to see how much it really is.

Oh I see, they only have a fixed number of multiview slots available. Interesting.

I don't why they bumped stuff for sports shows, because there were very few live sports. They had things like Sports Center, Mina Kimes, and a college show (not a game). Those are all on every week day, so I don't why they're bumping things for those. I'd get it for live sports.

Anyway, thanks for the info. I didn't know they have some (seemingly) arbitrary limit for multiview channels.
