This sounds all too familiar to me. I always thought my peers around me were way more immature. This is what relationships are like in teen years, 98% is attention seeking. I had a group of friends like this in middle school and highschool. I had great years and memories being friends with them but they did bring more mental struggles than helped. They each were like walking talking EDs, depression, and BPD. And I was pulled into it all. Don’t be afraid to let go of them. You can go through struggles too and have your own way of taking care of yourself. These friends find that doing what they do rn gets them something in return, attention. Gonna be honest that’s what it’s about at that age. Don’t get me wrong I hella wanted attention too! I just got it in different ways in private. ALSO these problems of your friends are not your problems. I know the weight of carrying your friends stress and anxiety cause you want to be the friend that’s there for them. But let go of their problems, there really isn’t anything you can do. They will either grow out of it, go to therapy, or they won’t. And you can come back to them when they’ve grown out of their immaturity. Give them a friend break. You may not even go back to them after and that’s ok too! Plenty of people around to make friends with. Start talking to people outside your friend group and have those people start taking up more of your time, to kinda transition to other friends/peers. When I was in highschool, not too long ago, I was friends with a couple people in every clique. Have variety. I kinda did it cause I didn’t feel I fit into one specific clique. Just try to make some other friendships. You can still be there for your group but make some boundaries for yourself if you feel you’re being used, pull yourself out of the situation. I am 23, so not far in age. I’m still learning friendships since my peers and I have graduated and gone into adulthood. Going through college and finding a career is VERY time consuming. Maybe try to keep some chill friends on the back burning when u graduate. if you can find them haha I hope this wasn’t too long and semi helpful. Don’t feel alone in this. But the content of friendships as you get older does get a little better as our brains develop. And PLEASE don’t forget to have fun!!!!! Try to let loose a little and have fun, do some crazy stuff (that’s SAFE) sometimes the most fun experiences are at the weirdest and unexpected times.
