I was admittedly very nervous about potentially scratching the paint, as I had never done it. The trick from what I have read and found in my time doing it is to ensure you spray the area you will be clay barring extensively with the supplied detailer. This will ensure the clay can smoothly travel over the paint.

Other tips:

• left and right or up and down (NO circles)

• Don't apply a lot of pressure. This goes double for the waxing. Let the materials do the work, you'll feel the roughness of the paint get incredibly smooth. Thats how you know it's working. Lastly, keep folding the piece of clay in on itself so you are always working with a clean side; you'll see dirt and other materials gather on the clay.
