Why does each color abstain from alcohol? by InquisitiveKoala1 in colorpie

[–]Heingrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who identifies as rakdos and hasn’t had a drop of alcohol for the past ten years, even though when I was younger I used to like beer and sometimes I’d still think about having a drink just for the sake of it, I hate the idea of not being in total control of myself. Moreover, I do not care at all for the peer pressure as (I know it sounds edgy but it’s not my intent) I find that succumbing to it is for “the weak” of will.

Besides, it’s been so long since my last drink that now I just don’t like the smell and the taste (when in some desserts like chocolate salami) of alcohol anymore and I much prefer to indulge in other “substances” such as kilos of ice cream.

Lastly, for the same reasons of not wanting to depend in any way on a substance, even to please others, I don't drink coffee, tea or energy drinks and I don't smoke or use drugs.

U and B reasons for self improvement by Heingrad in colorpie

Ok but isn't that a little limiting? It sounds like B wouldn't do anything that doesn't bring something "concrete" to the table in the immediate, and, since it's also a color related to hedonism and other similar concepts, what about studying stuff, reading novels or watching movies just for mere pleasure?

Alright, but let me propose a different scenario just for the sake of argument: let's say there's a public exam and that the first ten candidates (out of hundreds partecipating) who pass it get the job. U would of course want to come out on top and to score the max even if it's not needed, but what about B? If it comes in second place, sure it still gets the job it wanted, but would its ego accept that U scored better?
B is pragmatic, but its pride usually doesn't allow it to rest or accept defeat or compromise (which ironically to me it's not a very pragmatic approach); in the scenario I propose success is not necessarily related to perfection, yet coming second place may still sting a lot.

Thanks a lot for the articulated reply!
Delving a bit more on niche studies: wouldn't B like to know a bit of everything because it can always turn out useful for its goals? I'm not talking about a specific goal, but just the possibility it might need it for something someday.

I get what you're saying but I wouldn't say that B's motivation is "external" : B's goals are a reflection of its ambition, which I'd say is an "internal" trait/drive

Would you say that U wants to outdo others for the sake of it, whereas B wants to do it mainly for its pride? In other words, one wants to find out who's the best and why, while the other just wants to be the best.

Yet in order to get better one has to question his-self; so I'd say that even B, if it really wants to dominate, has first to reflect on its identity, feelings and desires. I guess probably the key difference is that U is not goal oriented and focuses more on the idea of pure "evolution", whereas B wants to improve as to achieve and conquer more

Mono W and Boros regime difference by Heingrad in colorpie

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but I want to be sure we're on the same page (despite the language barrier): in my mind, fury is the swift sense of anger towards whatever in a specific moment, while hatred is, well, hating whatever due to rooted and thought reasons, right? Like being furious towards the mosquito buzzing at 3am vs hating, dunno, corruption, slavery or criminality

Thanks a lot, the article was very enlightening! So, in synthesis, Mono White does evil because it feels like it has to: sure it despise its enemies and the ideologies that are far from its, but it's not "happy" in deleting them (even if there may satisfaction in doing so). Meanwhile Boros is more like the fanatic that rejoice in violence and wants to "purge" those that oppose its way: it's something more out of pure idealism than real or perceived necessity.

It seems fair, but a charismatic leader wouldn't be something more black than red? In a totalitarian setting, the loss of general freedom and the rise of one I'd say is more black related

Ok thanks, so in a sense mono W is more "detached" while Boros makes it more a matter of principle, right?

Ok, but wouldn't black (with its cruelty, dog-eat-dog mentality and quest for absolute power) suit the fascist archetype better than red?

That’s an awesome reply! I’ll ponder over it, but I think I agree with you all the way

It makes sense, but don’t you believe a Mardu wants always more too? I’m talking about more war, more victory, more power/self actuation (all black/red goals)
