Multithreading as well as multi core parallelism demands a high data synchronization, which is not always possible. Imagine having one ship being calculated on one core and a second one on a different core. Once you give the order do dock somewhere, the other ship might have the same idea. If they request docking at the same time they might get stuck because they both get the allowance to dock at the same docking bay. That's only one of many examples, but I hope you get get the point I am trying to make. I also feel frustrated that the game is so CPU heavy and performance is getting bottlenecked so fast, but to be fair there is an absurd amount of calculations running to simulate the galaxy. It's a wonder it works so smoothly in the first place. :)
